Chelsea Motor Inn is a short 1 block walk from Chestnut Street in the Marina district. Chestnut Street is loaded with restaurants, bars, sushi bars, a grocery store, gym, and lots of shopping. Very nice, safe area, there's even an Apple Store. Just another few blocks to the beach and marina, great views of Golden Gate, Alcatraz, and whole bay area. The hotel is clean, secure, and the front desk staff is friendly and helpful. I've stayed at more expensive places in San Fran but probably would not again. If you plan on being out and about this place is perfect. Good shower, clean bathroom. This isn't the Ritz, but not bad for 90 bucks a night in a city where 200 or more is pretty standard, in less attractive areas....like Fisherman's Wharf.

Room Tip: I had no view, but didn't care as I was only in the room at night. If a view is essential ask for one.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The location is quite central, and fairly easy to get to all the touristy locations. We walked to the wharf several times. Also there is a bus stop for one of the double decker bus companies across the street. The room is large, and while others have complained about the traffic noise, it didn't bother us, we were so exhausted from all the walking, that we never heard a thing. There is no fitness center, pool or extras like that, but there are a tonne of restaurants in the area, the area is actually known for the dining. The staff is very helpful if you need any assistance or recommendations. I have no complaints about this hotel.

Better late than never, but we stayed at the CMI in October 2010 and previous to that in June 2008. Both times we had a very comfortable stay in good value accommodation. Staff are very helpful and the free parking is a huge bonus. Location wise it is great, easy walk down to the front on Marina Blvd, or plenty of buses to take a trip to more distant locations. There are loads of places to eat near the hotel, we would highly recomend Izzys - just ask the hotel for directions, also for breakfast Abigail's just around the corner. Enjoy your stay - we hope to be back some time.

I have been staying at the Chelsea Motor Inn on almost a annual basis, one or two days at a time. I have never been disappointed with this hotel.

It is always clean, the staff has always been helpful, and the rooms are large and updated.
The free off-street parking that is included with the price of the room is a huge plus.

We just took a 3 day visit to SF, and stayed mid-week (with AAA we paid mid-$70s plus tax per night). Once again we had a great stay... trendy Chestnut Streets & Union Streets are just a couple of minute walk away. Walk to the bay in 5 minutes thru lovely neighborhoods.
We left the car parked 2 out of 3 days (it rained the last day)

Room Tip: Rooms on the front (Lombard Street) are noisier. They have a handful of very quiet rooms that have windows that open to a very small internal courtyard (almost a skylight), they are very quiet from city noises...but there is no view to anything, take a room in the back alley instead.
