this is a very nice hotel in a very nice area, however it is about 25 minute to walk to the coast and about 30 to pier 39. But it is a pleasant walk and nice to see the city. tue room was perfect, clean, large and comfortable. The big plus for this hotel is that parking is free unlike many hotels in San Francisco. Staff were very pleasant.

i would have no problem recommending this hotel as it was excellent value for money.

NO MORE!!
I stayed with a group at Chelsea Motor Inn for a week every October for 15 years, booking 5 rooms each time. I appreciated its location, good price and basic but comfortable rooms.

Unfortunately a new manager took over several years ago and any possibility of service or basic consideration totally disappeared.
I have stayed twice since Mr Lu 9(i believe that is his correct name)the new manager took over and he incorrectly booked our 5 rooms both times. He is unprofessional, curt to the point of rudeness and never apologized or tried to rectify the problems.
On our last trip the elevator was broken and he refused to hold our luggage in the office until it was repaired!! We had to either leave our bags in the hotel parking or carry them up 3 and 4 flight of stairs It appears he is a mean spirited man who should not be in hotel industry .It is a shame because the hotel was a little gem and we had many wonderful years staying there previous to his arrival
Also beware that Mohammed has a little kick back scam with airport vans

Room Tip: Back rooms are quieter

Dear gailchisholm,

We appreciate for taking your time writing a review of your stay and consider the comments.

We apologize for the inconvenience of your last stay and I am sure the manager on duty and staff members tried to accommodate as much as they could to keep your boxes in the back office. It is indeed unfortunate that the elevator was out of order during your last stay.

We appreciate your business and hope that you would give us another chance to help with your room bookings

Although there is nothing great about this hotel , it suited us having the car parking and was easy to get atound from here.nice bars , shops and restaurants and access to tram and buses and a cheap cycle hire along the road.
IF YOU PARK ON A HILL IN SF KERB YOUR WHEELS OR YOU WILL BE FINED.also the buses have bike carriers if you get tired...hills can be avoided but sooner or later you'll find one!

I stayed at the Chelsea motor in a few years back and on return to SF decided to stay here again. I was not disappointed, good onsite parking, large spacious room and easy walking to the quay, Union Street and Filmore Street. I would stay here again although the boy on the front desk hasn’t cheered up any over the last 5 years!

I don't usually submit reviews, but this time I had to. Chelsea Motor Inn is a wonderful hotel in a great neighbourhood. Our family of 4 adults stayed in a room with two double beds, one of the largest rooms in this price range we have ever stayed in. Our room had a view of the Golden Gate Bridge, so nice to look out to each morning (when the fog allowed). Hats off to the housekeeping crew who kept our room spotless and completey stocked with thick towels every day. Our request for extra pillows was met simply by completing the request online at time of booking. The location was so convenient. We walked almost everywhere in the city and it was so nice that, after a long tiring day, our hotel was in one of the flattest areas of the city. Public transit is right outside the door if we felt like taking the bus. Although the hotel does not have a restaurant of its own, there is a great place for breakfast a block and a half down Lombard Street called Home Plate that was terrific, especially for those great little scones I had read about in another review. For late night cravings, Taco Bell/KFC is immediately across the street. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!
