The Tilden was a nice stay, rooms were recently decorated, very clean, comfortable beds. Great price even though very close to a sketchy part of the Tenderloin. Very close to Union Square and lots of good shopping and restaurants. Like I said, the room was comfortable, but FYI there is no air conditioning which could be a big problem in hotter weather. Also, found an additional charge of $44 a week after I got back...Be aware, in the very small print it says:

"Resort fee: USD 22.13 per accommodation, per night. Resort fee inclusions:Internet access (may be limited),Newspaper,Phone calls (may be limited)Faxes, In-room safe, In-room coffee, Lending library access, Housekeeping, Additional inclusions"

Pretty lame. Nobody said it was $22 per night for WIFI. Who does that?? Still a good deal, but again, lame.

Thank you for your feedback. We have ensured that the amenity fee is well advertised throughout the content pages of our site as well as all the travel agency partners that we work with. These are of course mentioned during the booking stage so we maintain clear, transparent communication about the associated fees before our guests can take a final decision when booking. The fees are quite common in the city and we are still among the best deals out there with the value adds.
Thank you for staying with us.

When I got my statement in an $80.00 amenity fee was added. When I called to ask the hotel what for, they said for wi-fi and coffee. We were specifically told that the coffee was complimentary, we were even given the complimentary size coffee cup (they had two larger sizes for purchase). When we checked in we were given the password and never told that wi-fi is not free there.

I am sorry to hear that the amenity fee wasn't explained in detail upon your check in. We have ensured that all websites that advertise our hotel also list the amenity fee in detail and we also have the description of the amenities listed in the lobby but we will go through additional training to ensure that our staff informs every guest consistently.
We apologize for having missed the opportunity and if there is anything we can do to make up for it, please contact us directly.

Thank you

The Tilden is a very nice boutique hotel in San Francisco.

Pluses:
•Friendly staff
•Great location near Union Square
•Very pleasant, clean rooms
•Terrific (albeit small) bathroom
•Wonderful bathroom amenities
(Including Marvis toothpaste!)
•Great contemporary decor
•Hip "vibe"
•Beautiful "secret garden"

Minuses:
•Iffy neighborhood (in the "Tenderloin")
•No curtain or door on the closet
•No chest of drawers or shelves for
the storage of clothing (a big minus)
•Poor TV reception and limited
channel selection

We were in San Francisco on business, have not been to The City for a while. Booked at the Tilden we had business around Union Square. The Tilden has a good location right by the Hilton tower. It is the Tenderloin to be sure, however easy to get anywhere in the city from here. As long as you don't mind the tenderloin's panhandlers etc. The hotel it's self is a modernized vintage property so there are some carry overs in architecture and style. We found it fun and quirky but no problems at all. The staff are excellent. There is a little cafe in the front and also a bar/cafe in the evenings called the Douglas room. Great cocktails and the best Philly Cheesesteak I have had anywhere including Philly. Overall, a great value, good location and great staff.

Thank you so much for your kind feedback! We love your description of our property as 'modernized vintage' and I'm glad you enjoyed its charm. We hope you come back for more and do spread the word about the best Philly cheese-steak!

I stayed at the Tilden Hotel for 3 days while on a business trip to SF last week and it turned out to be a good experience. The front desk people were warm and helpful and the check-in was hassle free. The hotel building is obviously an old building that has been refurbished. My room was quite spacious with all amenities provided (iron board, coffee maker, TV, hair dryer, etc.). One does come across homeless people on the streets in this noisy neighbourhood but I felt safe during most parts of the day/evening walking to and fro the hotel (post 10 PM you are better off taking an Uber or a taxi). Overall, this is a good VFM proposition while in downtown SF, both while travelling for business or for leisure.

We had a great stay at the Tilden in a standard room with two double beds. Great, convenient location close to Union Square, fantastic staff, very tasty food and drinks and very thoughtful design to highlight the character of the hotel. Rooms are clean with high end, nice toiletries and amenities. Perfect for a weekend stay!
