“GREAT little neighborhood shopping”
Reviewed 9 March 2012

Super hip shops and restaurants favored by the local 20-and-30-somethings. One of the best shops is Dark Garden for custom corsets. Don't miss Blue Bottle Coffee right next door. Also terrific is Patxchis Pizza, Bar Jules and Absinthe restaurant for a martini. I love strolling this street on Saturdays, coffee in hand, and wandering into all of the great shops. Fantastic.

“Uber cool neighborhood with fine restaurants and unique shops.”
Reviewed 24 December 2011

You must try out Absinthe Restaurant. Zuni Cafe. Very elegant neighborhood, close to the symphony, opera, Herbst Theatre. Shops galore. If you are a lady and like shoes, Hayes Street is the street to check out. Clothes you cannot find elsewhere in any department store.

“My fave place in San Fran”
Reviewed 17 February 2009

We visited San Francisco for 10 days last November and rented an apartment in the Hayes Valley. It was the best thing we ever did as we have always stayed in hotels downtown. The area was just perfect with lots of restaurtants and a huge Safeway near our apartment. It didn't take long to walk into town although a bit dodgy along Market Street but you can always get public transport.

Would definitely recommend the Hayes Valley to stay or just to visit.

“The perfect Sunday stroll”
Reviewed 20 May 2003

When you're in San Francisco, it's sometimes difficult to figure out what to do next. Also, feeling frazzled is not uncommon when you're running from SFMOMA to the Wharf to the Castro to the beach and back again. Hayes Valley is a quiet little neighborhood that doesn't see much tourist traffic, because it doesn't have a famous moniker like The Mission or Embarcadero. What it has instead is a quiet, quaint collection of clothing boutiques, art galleries, restaurants and vintage furniture stores collected in a three-square-block area perfect for window shopping or a nice, casual coffee (or wine) break on a Sunday afternoon. When you need a breather, think of Hayes Valley. (MUNI stop is Van Ness Station, or ask the taxi driver to take you to Hayes and Gough ["Goff"] and stroll up and down Hayes street.)
