it seems that all hotels in San Francisco are at premium rates so it is hard to rate. The main positive is the location of this hotel, very handy for the tram, the bridge and fisherman's wharf.

when we arrived in SF there was a Gay Pride march and the place was gridlocked so being strangers and trying to access our hotel using Satnav was challenging. Thankfully having got there the Door staff were excellent, helped us unload. We had hoped that reception could store our baggage as we explained that we needed to return the Hire car and it was just before 3pm - in fact we got checked in and our bags taken off for us so that we could set off.
Reception staff were very good and when we asked if it was possible to move rooms if we found it noisy (near the ice machine and lift) we were reassured that we could. in fact it was fine and we had no issues.

The room was clean and spacious and we had a great view overlooking Alcatraz!
We had a room only rate so the breakfast is an unknown.

We arranged a shuttle to the airport with the Concierge which was very good and he provided some complimentary bicycles for the day to ride over the bridge. It was a lovely surprise so thank you for that.

We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel - not too big so there was never an issue at reception where we felt staff were helpful.

Room Tip: best views are at the front of the hotel and the side overlooking the bridge. A higher floor would give a better view.

Glynis2014,

We are thrilled to read that you found an oasis of peace aboard the Argonaut during one of the year's busiest weekends. It's also wonderful to know that you were able to take advantage of our complimentary bicycles and had an opportunity to take them across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Thank you for recommending us!

We stayed here for a week, and it is a fabulous hotel! The location is awesome -- it was easy to walk to North Beach and Chinatown, and Fisherman's Wharf and the cable car route are right around the corner. The lobby has several comfortable seating clusters, including one around a fireplace, which was a fantastic place to relax in the evening. Our room was spacious, and the beds were really comfortable. I had several conversations with the concierge Terry, both before and during our trip, and I can't say enough great things about her!!! She helped us purchase passes for the Hop On Hop Off bus tours, suggested early morning trips for Muir Woods and for easy access to the cable car without long wait times, and she mapped out the non-hilly route to take to North Beach and Chinatown. She was also able to give me great suggestions about public transportation to Market Street. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!!!

KimR_hoos,

What a shout-out; we love it!

Thanks so much for not only remarking upon our hard-to-beat location and the hotel's wonderful decor, but also for taking the time to acknowledge Terry. She made your stay truly special, and that makes us very proud!

Let us know when you'll be back, and we'll take good care of you again...

All the best,

Stayed here for 3 nights. The location is excellent, with restaurants and shops on the doorstep, Ghiradelli Square a few minutes walk, as is a lovely little beach and promenade area, with fantastic views over the bay, Pier 39 approx 15 minutes walk, you couldn't ask for better!! We have stayed in San Francisco before in Union Square and wasn't impressed with either the hotel or San Francisco, but this time, the hotel and location made us see San Francisco in a different light altogether.

The staff are very friendly and helpful, decor lovely, all nautical themed, with big cosy sofas in the lounge area. Breakfast is served in the Blue Mermaid (not included in the price), with plenty of choice and a nice place to eat. Our room was comfortable and a reasonable size, the only downside was it faced onto an internal courtyard, not something within our control as we were part of a tour group. If we stayed again (a definite if return to San Francisco) we would book a room looking out onto the street instead.

Without a doubt made our stay in San Francisco much better this time round.

llpasah,

Thank you for your wonderful review of the Argonaut Hotel and excellent depiction of the city's waterfront spanning from the Ballpark to Aquatic Park and Ghirardelli Square. There's so much to see and do in San Francisco and it's great to know that you experienced this world class city from a different perspective this time around.

With so much to explore, be sure to plan for another visit soon!

Wishing you safe travels back to the UK in the meantime,

Very cute hotel with a great location. Walking distance to several attractions, restaurants, shops including Cable Cars and Fisherman's Wharf. I know I have seen reviews saying the Wharf area is touristy, but we were tourists, so I thought it was fun. Several tours and bike rentals close by. Really no need for a car. Ben and Jerry's next door, Ghiradelli close enough to walk to. Tons of places to eat close by. Wine reception in the evening. Staff gave us good direction on restaurants and where to go. Very clean and comfortable. We were very pleased with everything.

An excellent hotel ideally located on Fisherman's Wharf area. The rooms and service were first class and I would recommend.
The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble particularly the concierges at the front who helped me and my family every time we parked up.
The room was very clean and all facilities were first class.
