I grew up in the neighborhood and this place has become terrible. Usually people who like it are people who came here later in life from the burbs and don't know good Italian food. The service is atrocious as well. It went from being a little old neighborhood spot with good old timers working to now a bunch of hipsters working the front. Stay in north beach for Italian or go to Marcello's on Taraval and pay a bit more.

Haven't been to a neighborhood old time Italian pizzeria for many years, but being in the neighborhood, and having the hankering for pizza, we wanted to visit it. The seating was quick for a Friday night. The decor is typical Italian restaurant, but the carpeting/floors needs to be replaced ... well worn and dirty. Walking in, you walk thru the area where pizzas are made and orders for take out are made. Its a neighborhood place with families of all age groups/ethnic groups will visit. Our server was very good, she was quick to answer questions and check with us mid way to see if all was ok. The house green salad was nothing to write home about; basic lettuce, with 2 thinly slices of tomatoes, canned sliced black olives, canned kidney/garbanzo beans.. adding a bit of grated purple cabbage or grated carrots or julienned beets, would add more "wow" to the salad with the pop of color, but still not cost more than a few cents, and considering the cost of the salad plate ~it should've been on it. The pizza was good: requested the crust to be extra crispy and it came out as requested.
The chicken pizza was good, with sliced chicken breast,s , green basil, red cherry tomatoe slices with mozzarella made for a very colorful pizza. Order a bottle of reasonable priced italian wine. The down side is the ambiance: everyone in restaurant that evening were dismayed and turning to stare in disbelief , at 1 table with 5 adults & 1 child, who were having "spirited conversations" but YELLING to each other, and above each other, to make themselves heard, that even the child was Yelling to be heard by an adult. It made everyone in room, turn & stare and wondering why mgmt did not do anything. This made the experience BAD for us. It will be a long time before we return, Food is DECENT, Server was GOOD, ambiance & mgmt NEEDS WORK. Do not disregard the rest of the patrons, for the sake of a loud table of obnoxious adults who act worse than kids in the playground. Word of mouth travels.

Just left after having - well exactly what we wanted - a couple of beers and a tasty pizza to eat. Simple. But the people there and the owner and his mate made the place! Chatted for hours and even gave local advice and went on to the street to get driving advice for our next stage of the adventure. Tasty food but local people make it the nicest place we've been so far!
