We stayed here for 2 nights and wished that we would have stayed longer. After long days of touring around, it was really nice to come back to a hotel that felt this comfortable. Considering its an old hotel, its very clean, well kept, the included breakfast buffet is excellent and the location is in a safe and beautiful area. The lobby had an area where coffee/tea and water were always available, a nice touch we used both nights. The parking was free which was much better than the $48 per night we paid at another hotel a few nights later, but it does come with a bit of car juggling, if you plan on parking it for the day. The parking signs say 3 hour parking from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, so you can park from 3:00 pm to 11:00 am the next day and the hotel will make sure to move your car during the times you could get a parking ticket, a really nice service. This hotel has a GREAT staff, you won't be disappointed

Room Tip: Get a room that has a view. We upgraded to an outer view and were glad that we did.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for posting such a lovely review!

Thank you also for highlighting our parking services here at the hotel -- we do get some questions about parking both because the service is free of charge and quite unconventional.

If you do choose to drive to the Drisco, you will find that the neighborhood parking in the vicinity of the hotel is free, convenient and almost always quite plentiful (we are surrounded by multi-million dollar mansions with attached garages, so you are not competing with our neighbors for street parking!). However, because the City of San Francisco does impose street cleaning restrictions on certain days and a three-hour parking limit at certain times of day, we offer -- at no charge -- to move your car whenever necessary. Just leave your keys with the Bell staff, tell us where you're parked and we will take care of everything for you. In our view it sure beats paying $50 to $60 per night at most other luxury hotels in the City!

Kind Regards,

John Spear
General Manager

Stayed 3 nights at Hotel Drisco while on a business trip to San Francisco. The first night started off very noisy and with limited sleep due to the "shuttering" of the windows from the wind, the rather thin walls between room and hallway, and noise from another hotel guest and their unruly child. (which lasted for 4 hours) The hotel is known for it's wonderful location, in Pacific Heights, peaceful surroundings, and quiet relaxed home feeling. My first night stay was an alarm and although the guest with the noisy child checked out the next day, the noise from the hallways, the weather and wind shaking thin windows, the amenities in need of an update, (bathroom, shower, carpet, my overall rating can only be 3.5 stars. Being a native Californian and knowing the quality and reputation for which the hotel (historically had maintained), i was disappointed with my stay. I specifically selected the hotel based on the reviews from TripAdvisor, the location (which is perfect to the better attractions in SF) and the desire for a quiet and peaceful hotel for my business trip.

The staff was friendly and helpful, but appeared bothered during my check in.

For the rate consider other hotels in SF.

Room Tip: Ensure you request 4th (top) level. Request an outward facing room. Do NOT stay in the rooms which f...

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for taking the time to give us your feedback regarding your experience at the Hotel Drisco.

I am always disappointed to hear from guests who have had anything less than a fantastic experience with us. Even though we do many things very well, all hotels have room to improve in specific areas, and the Hotel Drisco is no exception. However, in reading your review carefully I can’t help but come to the conclusion that the issues you raise fall into one of two categories. 1.) Issues that are beyond our control, such as an unruly child or the weather and 2.) Issues which I do not understand, such as your characterization of some of our amenities as “tired.”

In our 109-year history, the hotel has never been in better shape than it is today. All guestrooms were renovated from top to bottom just four years ago (including super high-grade Axminster carpeting) and in the past 18 months we have introduced an amazing array of complimentary new amenities, such as luxury brand Agraria bath amenities, a sumptuous continental breakfast spread, a pillow menu, new minibar items, a vastly expanded wine reception, and many, many other little touches.

I am convinced, as are many other reviewers here on TripAdvisor, that the Hotel Drisco provides better value for your money than any other hotel in San Francisco. To paraphrase another recent reviewer, if you are looking for a hermetically-sealed concrete box of a room, then there are indeed some better choices than the Drisco. However, if you are looking for local charm, impeccable service and a home away from home, then I will personally guarantee you the Hotel Drisco will not disappoint.

Sincerely,

John Spear, General Manager

We stayed here for two nights. It was a sheer pleasure. Although it is a small hotel, it is run very professionally, from the service to the decorating to the attention to every detail. Each evening we were treated to wine and cheese in the lobby, and it was available as we walked through, so there was never a crowd. We were able to take a short walk over to the Presidio and the walking trail along the bay to the Golden Gate Bridge. On another day we walked down the hill to the Washington/Broderick/Divisadero neighborhoods to browse in small shops, cafes and great restaurants. Overall, the price was worth it for this elegant getaway and perfect location.

Room Tip: All rooms seem very nice. Since the street is quiet, and all rooms are upstairs from the main floor...

All of the wonderful reviews on trip advisor served us well in choosing this wonderful hotel. For us, it is the perfect size, giving us personal service in an extremely well located hotel. The additional amenities are incredible, especially for a big city hotel, where often everything is added on. As promised, the on street parking was easy, safe and on the weekends, without time limits and free. The front desk staff took care of everything with such a graciousness that we look forward to our next visit. We were sorry to leave as the room was spectacular, with views of the city and every comfort attended to, especially wonderful beds. Highest recommendation for all ages.

Room Tip: The corner suite was extra lovely and well worth the additional cost.

We booked Hotel Drisco for a week so we were based somewhere for more than a couple of days for my 50th birthday. It was fantastic, very authentic historic hotel, maintained and serviced wonderfully. We loved it. I could rave on and on but I won't. I will end with saying I had a wonderful birthday and would definitely stay there again if I could. 10/10

Room Tip: Book City View Suite - Room 406a - You will LOVE it !!!!

We're more large hotel type people. After doing some research I came up with this hotel and took a chance.turns out we won big time. The staff was excellent, everyone was as helpful as can be.The continental breakfast was a gourmet treat, and the wine and cheese in the afternoon was very nice. The room we stayed in although not large was very nice, clean and fitted with many personal touches that showed someone put some thought into every detail. The welcoming living room area with complimentary coffee and teas hit the spot. The location was an unexpected delight since it is located in a the quiet neighborhood of Pacific heights. We were delighted with this find and would strongly recommend this hotel to friends and family.

We stayed at Hotel Drisco as part of the "California leg" of our honeymoon. What can I say: it was perfect. We had been in SF a couple of times before, always staying in the Wharf area, where the large Hotel companies have some of their properties. Well, I´m never staying at the Wharf or Union Square area again, I will always try to go back to the Drisco.

Upon check in, we had a King room with a city view reserved for us, 206 A (there are few, most of the kings I understand, look into a patio, so this was a nice gesture). When we entered the room, the view was beautiful and breathtaking, and we had a bottle of champagne waiting for us, with a very warm note on how they wish we return to the Drisco to celebrate anniversaries (we certainly hope to!).

We never had an issue to park just around the corner to the hotel entrance. All staff and housekeeping was great and helpful. European-style breakfast is delicious, and the wines in the evening tasting were good. And to top it all off... the neighborhood!!
