A friend and I stayed here on the nights of 5/14/12, 5/15/12 and 5/16/12. We each had a room and were very comfortable throughout our stay. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. We had free parking for our entire stay. The people in the front office are very helpful and the office is open 24 hours. You can walk to Fisherman's Wharf from the motel. We discovered that you can travel anywhere in S.F. using public transport. We caught buses near the motel that connected with other buses or cable cars and we were spared the worry of driving in this busy city. The Hop On - Hop Off bus tours are a great way to get around the points of interest.

Reasonable rates for great location in San Francisco. Rooms are clean - could be upgraded but comfortable enough. The management's fabulous - helpful in every way

I booked this Inn because of the very good reviews here on TripAdvisor, and they weren't wrong. We stayed Friday night 11 May, checking out Sunday the 13th. The host and hostess are very friendly and helpful. We had rooms 34 and 36, away from the street, and the street noise was minimal. It was nice to have a refrigerator, and there was a microwave which we didn't use. Very clean rooms, nice bathrooms, and cleaned every day.
Location is perfect. We walked slowly down Van Ness to Ghiradelli Square in about 15 minutes. And the famous "crooked" Lombard street is only minutes away.
The host was most helpful in hooking up his computer to their printer, letting us do on-line check-in for our flight, and print our boarding passes. Staying here worked out very well. Some friends will be going to SFO in July, and I recommended this Inn to them.

We stayed for six nights in March and were very happy with this hotel. The staff at reception were very friendly as was the owner. The room was comfortable and very clean. There was a good fridge, microwave oven and coffee maker. The coffee/tea/sugar were replenished each day. The room was cleaned each day and towels/ sheets were changed each day . There was complimentary breakfast which consisted of cakes and you made your own coffee in the room. There was a lift.
Although the hotel is on a main road we had a room near the back and so the traffic did not bother us. It was easy to get buses to Fisherman's Wharf and other parts of San Francisco. There was a bicycle rental shop three or four blocks away which we used on two occasions. The hotel is also very close to Cow Hollow where there are lots of restaurants.
If we go to San Francisco again I would be quite happy to stay here again. It is a motel but it was comfortable and had all that we required.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the back away from the road.

Our friend who used to live in San Francisco recommended the Redwood Inn, otherwise, we probably would not have found this gem. We called the day we were arriving, which was a Friday in mid-April, 2012 and they had rooms available (lucky for us). The rooms are very reasonably priced.

One of the aspects that drew us was the free parking, which is great in the middle of San Francisco. We asked for a quiet room and we were not disappointed. Our room was spacious and clean, with a full sized refrigerator! We didn't need it, but had we been staying longer than a night, we would have taken advantage of this. There is an elevator as well as 2 sets of stairs and motel style rooms, which open directly to the outdoor tiered walkways. The free donuts in the lobby were a bonus when I checked out.

The only thing that kept me from giving them 5 stars was some confusion around my credit card receipt, but the woman working at the front desk was very kind as she worked through it.

Room Tip: The top floor seems to be the quietest.

Recently booked 2 rooms for a long weekend at the Redwood Inn and got more then we bargained for. We got 2 modestly furnished rooms. Also 2 free parking spaces, free donuts, free wifi, a microwave and mini frig......yes, there were reasonably comfortable beds and a decent bathroom as well.

There are very few things we did not like or appreciate about the Redwood Inn. Here's a list:

The sounds of city traffic piercing the thin exterior window, door and wall (after 1 night, we didn't seem to notice it as much)
Management asking for a $50 cash deposit from the members of one of our party for one room, but not the other. (deposit to assure the return of the TV remote control. I guess we fit the remote stealing profile)
Requested a microwave in each room and there was only a microwave in one (honestly never used the one we had)
Locked gate to the roof (dont know that we would have spent longer then a few minutes anyway...took some pictures and came back down)

BIGGEST COMPLIANT
Paper thin pillows...you know, the type you have to fold in half so you can at least feel them under your head and only 2 on each queen size bed. This being our biggest compliant and the great price we paid to stay here.....we all gave it a 2 thumbs up!!

The good far exceeded the bad. Now understand, if you are looking to impress someone, I would not bring them back to this "motorlodge", but that aside, we enjoyed our stay in this safe, clean accommodation.

See picture we posted for more details.

Lovely hotel for the price, we stayed 4 nights.
Staff were plesant, and Breakfast is provided at Reception in the morning. Get in quick before all the Donuts and Muffins are gone though!
Located in Fishermans walk so everything is a bus ride or walking distance ( beware of the hills) away. The rooms were clean and the provided coffee and fridge which was handy. Safeway is a 10 min walk away (always a plus).
Other people seem to moan about noise but this did not bother us at all.
We got to San Fran on a Friday evening. A few motels were booked out. I looked at 5 motels in the same area in San Fran and all were more expensive than the Redwood so I would definately recomend the Redwood for your stay.

Room Tip: Don't be afraid to ask for a discount if you stay more than 3 nights :-)
