We went there with no recommendation and were very surprised. Food, service and ambience is very good. We were lucky for having a seat at the corner, which is possible to see them cooking and preparing all the plates and it was awesome. Highly recommend!!! Fantastic experience.

Family of 5. Big serves, impressive tastes. Like Osterias in Italy. Need to book early otherwise you may not not get table. Very, very popular place. Casual setting, which is the way we like it. Rated in the top 3 restaurants for us in SFO. Absolutely will return if we visit SFO again. Again, remember to book early

This is a great spot for fresh seafood. Reserve in advance or go very early for dinner. Sotto Mare is classic North Beach!

The seafood was very fresh and the portions were ridiculous. You have to try the cioppino. Lots of seafood in portions for 2-3 people. The seafood linguine was very good as was the steamed clams. Top it off with a bottle of Chianti. The prices were very reasonable.

My family and I came here for dinner last night. We found this little gem on TripAdvisor. It has wonderful reviews, so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. A word of caution though: if you plan to go with a party of 3 or more - definitely make a reservation. You won't get in otherwise. They do not offer reservations for party of 2 or less - those are first come first served.

The restaurant is in Little Italy, It is very small, although they do have a downstairs dining room and party room. The upstairs (street level) houses the open kitchen and the few tables that are lined against the wall. The room can get very hot, given the small space and the open kitchen, so dress accordingly and dress casually. It is not a fancy or pretentious place at all. T-shirt and jeans or shorts would be perfect.

The service is very good. Everyone knows what they are doing and they run like a well oiled machine. The food comes quickly also. Prices are extremely reasonable and the portions are very large.

We shared a mussels and clam steamer - oh so good and the broth goes great with the bread they give you! Sop it all up!! Tried a small cup of Boston clam chowder - great! Loaded with seafood. The seafood risotto and seafood linguine were equally amazing.

They do not do desserts but there is a gelato place nearby. They have a small wine list and really not much of a cocktail list. That would not deter us from going back though. You go there for the seafood and you won't be disappointed. Nothing fancy - just big portions, great value for great seafood. A must try in San Francisco!
