Red Radish is not a typical restaurant: no sit down and have a wait staff bring your drinks. At heart it is a catering company that has added to-go offerings for pickup. They have several locations, and I am gonna go out on a limb and say the original location is the one in Black Mountain. This is how it works: at the beginning of the month, they publish a monthly menu of their dinner plans for every day. So if there is a particular day you like what they are cooking, then call them early in the afternoon (they will sell out sometimes), place an order and tell them what time you will pick it up. Your meal will be waiting on you when you arrive, hot and delicious.
Honestly, I cant say enough good about Red Radish. Any place that can not only succeed but also expand while essentially only serving one particular meal a day is doing something right. The food is absolutely fabulous. Generally I eat vegetarian if convenient; however, anything they make with pork (which is generally served on Thursdays) is out-of-this-world.
The staff has always been friendly and helpful. The place is clean and well-maintained. Three days a week, they have vegetarian options and I have had those on many occasions and they are equally delicious. This brings me to an important point: I particularly like vegetarian food with lots of vegetables instead of some soy substitute. I am not a fan of tofu, tempeh, and seitan. I prefer vegetables. Red Radish seems to get that and their vegetarian options are stocked with those type of ingredients. They do have tofu, tempeh dinners but they are stated on the menu. You can grab a dessert at your pickup as there are always options when you arrive.
Many people think they are a bit pricey for a to-go restaurant at approximately $15 a meal. However, the quality of the food is top-notch and worth every penny.
