I have visited Katuah market several time for groceries and lunch. They have a great selection of healthy groceries and a very nice market with drinks, sandwiches and baked goods. The folks are friendly and a great outdoor seating.

Thank Wesstone

Great place to get fresh, organic, local food. The food is healthy and delicious, from their salad bar, hot foods bar, deli bar and bakery. Grab something to go or sit outside on their patio. Can't wait to go back.

A locally owned natural food market. Worth a visit. Located in Biltmore Station near Biltmore Village on Hendersonville Rd. A charming place to browse, have a coffee or quick meal. Pastries are delicious. Good place to people watch. They also offer supplements, bodycare, local beer and wines, organic products, meats and cheese. Outdoor cafe as well.

Asheville prides itself on everything being local in the city, be it their famous beer, the numerous farm-to-fork restaurants or its downtown that is basically void of chain stores and restaurants. Katuah Market fills a niche in Asheville. It is a locally owned store that tries to sell what is produced in the area. The owner started Greenlife Grocery, but despite his objections, that was sold to the mega-organic store, Whole Foods. He felt Asheville needed a real local grocery store.
My husband and I had a chance to go to Katuah Market right after it opened in late-December. The store was still trying to get the finishing touches completed. Nonetheless, it was an inviting place to find local and organic. We checked out their beer selection and were pleasantly surprised. They had Hi-Wire beer (Please see our review for this excellent brewery) in the refrigerated section of their store. An excellent representation of Asheville beers was present along with many other microbrewery beer choices.
It is a grocery store with everything you would want to eat. It does not have cleaning supplies, hardware or any other sort of non-food item. Katuah Market is a place to get great local fresh food for the pantry and refrigerator. Three examples: Lamb from East Fork Farms (27 miles north of Katuah Market), Shade Raised Organic coffee (13 miles northwest of Katuah Market) and Tito’s Hummus (26 miles south of Katuah Market).
We checked out their prepared foods section. The aroma of the freshly cooked food was very enticing. Despite the cold weather outside, we had some of their chicken salad, which is some of the best we have ever had. It was not loaded down with mayonnaise. The flavors were a delight to the tongue. What is offered seems to change frequently. Since we were town on New Year’s Day, I had to have my traditional collards and black-eyed peas. For some reason, it is hard to find it in Asheville, but Katuah Market came to the rescue.
There is a dining area to eat the food from the prepared foods section. If none of that appeals to you, a cafeteria adjoins the dining area where you can get coffee, tea, pastries, sandwiches, etc. Though Katuah Market had just opened for business, it was rather busy in the dining area.
They claim their prices cannot be as good as the large corporate stores as the big boys can buy in bigger volume, but Katuah Market claims they will have more local than anyone else in town. If you are in the Biltmore Village area, Katuah Market is definitely a place for some great local food. We were very satisfied with the store and will make it one of our stops every time we are in Asheville.
