Is Katuah Market going to make it? We stopped by there today, and true it was Sunday afternoon, but the place was absolutely dead. Maybe a half dozen customers in the whole grocery. For owners who made such a huge success out of Greenlife, and then sold it to Whole Foods, that's crazy.
I think the problem is partly the location. Who goes grocery shopping in Biltmore? Where's the residential base, other than Biltmore Forest and maybe part of Kenilworth?
Plus, these days competition is a lot stiffer than it was just a few years ago, with Trader Joe's, two nearby Fresh Markets, Greenlife and another Whole Foods, a couple of Earthfares, a big snazzy Harris-Teeter, tons of Ingles and a new Publix opening soon, just to name a few nearby options.
Finally, Katuah doesn't seem to offer much if anything that the other gourmet groceries don't, and prices are not a bargain.
