If you like well kept, older buildings with loads of history, you'll love this hotel. The entire time I could imagine white-gloved ladies sipping tea in the front room. The place is very charming and clean. The staff quiet, helpful, and available. Everyone made sure I was comfortable. The breakfast and coffee each morning was delicious and the dining room rather elegant. This is a relaxed place where you can take it easy.

Room Tip: It's an old place so the floors do squeak (I think it's part of the charm) when someone walk...

My boyfriend and I stayed in a deluxe room at the Princess Anne and loved our experience there. The Princess Anne retains the best aspects of a B&B without the downsides: the staff were friendly and suggested fun hikes for us, the breakfast was delicious and made to order and served in a beautiful dining room, and there was a generous wine/happy hour. Unlike other B&Bs, the very professional staff maintained a warm atmosphere without making us feel like we were staying at a distant relative's house.

Especially loved the modern bathrooms with fantastic Ecru toiletries (I regret not taking all the bottles with me!), the complimentary truffles and water bottle, and large, comfortable four-poster bed and bay windows. And the antique elevator!

The neighborhood was mostly residential and quiet, and we drove into downtown Asheville for dinner and to see the art studios. Try Table if you're in the mood for a nice dinner.

Again, a perfect stay. I wish there were hotels like this in every city.

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms (sleeping 2) are a great value and are very large. The bathroom didn't have a t...

We spent one night at the Princess Anne Hotel this past weekend and were very impressed. Our two-room suite (#303) featured a bedroom and separate sitting area and kitchenette. The suite was well decorated and very clean and comfortable. All in all, it was about the size of two regular hotel rooms with a bathroom in between.

The kitchenette included a mini-fridge, two-burner stove and a microwave. Although we were only there for one night, any utensils we might have needed for a longer stay were provided. It would definitely be possible to comfortably cook a few meals in the room.

On that note, we really enjoyed the wine and hors d'oeuvres (vegetables, meats, cheeses, and fruits) downstairs, which are served from 4:30-6 each evening. It was very relaxed but also elegant.

After a glass of wine, we walked downtown for dinner. It took us about 15 minutes to get to the restaurant. Although this probably wouldn't be an option for anyone with mobility issues, I think most people could make the walk in 20 minutes or less. The neighborhood was safe, and with the help of the hotel staff, we avoided walking down any major streets.

Breakfast was served in the dining room the following morning and marked a perfect end to our stay. From what I understand the menu changes, but we had an option of waffles, a fruit plate with yogurt, or an omelet. The omelet, which was served with fruit, bacon, and toast, was great.

Before this trip, we planned to stay at the Grove Park on our next visit to Asheville, but our experience at the Princess Anne has changed our minds. We'll definitely be back.

My husband and I have stayed at the Princess Anne on multiple occasions and it is our favorite place to stay when we visit Asheville. It is conveniently located near downtown and you can easily get there within ~5 minutes. Every afternoon, they have a wine and appetizer selection/ social hour provided to guests, which we enjoyed thoroughly. The size of the inn is appealing to us because it's large enough that you don't have to do the "meet and greet" thing if you don't want to (as you often must at small B&Bs). You can get your glass of wine and plate of goodies and go to a table for two the porch...or you can sit amongst the sofas and chairs and meet others. The breakfasts are phenomenal and filling.

I usually do not care for bed and breakfast hotels but Princess Anne is exceptional. The rooms are large and comfortable. The dining room is elegant with breakfast choices that would please any palate. The warm ambiance of the hotel lends itself to friendly conversation with travellers we met from Canada and England. The hotel is located in walking distance from all the downtown hotspots.

This is our second year in a row at the Princess Anne. We loved it so much last year that we came back this year. Once again, we were not disappointed. Breakfast is phenomenal, rooms are big, clean, cosy, and well furnished. We really appreciated being able to walk downtown, also. Great location.

The staff are so personable. They are friendly, talkative, and helpful. It's so nice to get good concierge service. Last year, I wanted to go mineral collecting, but I didn't have any tools. I told the concierge and she surfaced almost immediately with a hammer and chisel. This year, I just said the word "migraine" and instantly was holding water and ibuprofen. That desk is magic.

It's apparent that the people behind the Princess Anne have a passion for making guests comfortable and happy. From the free wine and excellent truffles to the comfortable chairs scattered around the building, everything about the place is inviting--and off-season rates are less than many chain hotels!

We will definitely be back. If you're looking for an exceptional place to stay in Asheville, go to the Princess Anne. You won't be disappointed.

I stayed here with my boyfriend December 15-17 after spending some much needed time in the mountains in the days previous. It was nice to return to civilization and especially nice to stay somewhere with such welcoming accommodations and relatively easy access to downtown! Once we checked in, we didn't drive our car once. That being said: we really like to walk and explore, so if you're not one for hills, but don't want to drive, then maybe you should look closer to town. We loved it, though.

Our room was bright and spacious, and our bed was seriously comfortable, with excellent linens. The bathroom was cold, but big with really nice fixtures. We even had a large walk-in closet, which was great for drying our wet clothes after spending a day in the rain! The worst thing about the room actually had nothing to do with the room - we must have been there on garbage pick-up day because some really loud truck came really early in the morning one day and totally woke us up...

...but that was okay because we had the most excellent breakfast waiting for us downstairs. The menu changed from morning to morning, which was nice. We also enjoyed afternoon "wine time"! The staff was extremely personable and eager to assist.

I would definitely stay here again!
