I first visited the Black Rose in the early '70's. It used to be a true Irish Pub offering a great menu and entertainment. Since it has changed hands it has changed not for the better. It offers a limited and pathetic menu. I visited on a Thursday evening around 7PM and the restaurant was doing a good business with many of the customers being out of town tourists. There was a private party upstairs; the music they played was not Irish music. It filtered through the dining area downstairs where we sat. Live entertainment was scheduled to begin at 9:30PM. The Black and Tan I ordered was not drawn from fresh brew and their curry fries appetizer were a farce. Both beer and fries were priced at six dollars each. The beef stew was inadequate for the price of $14.00. Nine dollars for three corned beef sliders with nothing else on the plate was also way over-priced. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant enough. In a city were Irish Pubs are a dime a dozen, I will opt for a different one the next time. The Black Rose is a sad shadow of its former self!

Good Irish experience in Boston, not far from the wharfs. Good food, decent prices, and great beer selection. Was here for lunch with the family and some visiting friends. We all enjoyed our food and the experience. Would go back , and would recommend it. Next time I will try that Massive Boston Creme Pie!

This little bar on State is just a few minutes from the subway. The stew is absolutely fantastic, though be prepared - no mash with it. Unlike many food retailers, the portions will leave you satisfied, but not stuffed. Although not cheap it really is a great home from home flavour. If you manage to stay awake until 9.30pm they offer live music every night. Guinness was on special offer at just under $7 when we went. Expect to pay $20 per meal.
