“Nice, but the wifi is slow”
Reviewed 10 April 2012

Spent four days at the Westin in Boston while attending a conference. My room was very nicely appointed, it was quiet, and the housekeeping was very efficient. I should also give a shout out to the staff. The first night there, for the first time in my life, I walked in my sleep and found myself locked out of my room at 2 am, barely dressed. I had the guy in the next room call security to help me. The guard was very kind and found the whole thing pretty funny. So, cool.

Two downsides: the room wifi is very slow. As is the service in the hotel bar, Bar 10.

We visited with my wife for her convention. The hotel seemed fashionable. My one complaint would be the tray full of sensored snacks we had to be careful of (yes, my son did knock one down), and the mini-fridge full of high cost drinks with sensors. It would be very nice if they'd leave half the fridge empty for us to use for leftovers! Lesser hotels give guests empty mini-fridges, and sometimes even microwaves! But, the hotel people were friendly. The hotel was nice. They got their pool fixed. So, overall, it seemed like a nice place.

The hotel is excellently located, and our room had a spectacular view of the Charles River and of Fenway Park in the distance. Furnishings were luxurious. The details were, however, not what we had expected from a hotel with the star ratings of this one. The room wi-fi did not work unless one stood or sat within 2 feet of the door to the hallway. Wi-fi tech support was unavailable when needed (once I was cut off after 30 seconds, the 2nd time it took 8 hours for a response). The coffee maker was inferior: able to provide coffee only one cup at a time, into a paper cup, and unable to keep it warm; and when we arrived it still contained a used coffee package from the previous occupants of the room. The bathroom plastic glasses were not replaced when they were used and discarded. There was no room telephone directory, leaving one dependent on the concierge for numbers. The concierge, when asked about a specific tour, checked the time but not the availability, and when we went to the tour site (by taxi) we found that the tour had been sold out. To get a morning newspaper one had to hike down the hall in one's dressing gown to the elevator area, where the newspapers were piled, although the room's hotel directory said that a newspaper was delivered to the room door. The express check-out (also according to the hotel directory) was supposed to provide an envelope for one's room key(s), upon which one could also mark a request for a formal invoice to be mailed or e-mailed; but no such envelope appeared or--when I asked at the front desk for one--even existed. The mini-bar used a sensor and was placed right beside the coffee machine, where any mistaken movement might knock something over and thus result in a charge: a grasping manoeuvre by the hotel, we thought. The elevators were extremely slow to arrive; even though there were 7, only 3 seemed to be in operation at any given time, although the hotel was crowded. It is true that we were part of a conference; but our room was not part of the conference-rate block, as we had been too late for the conference block cut-off. Altogether the details were disappointing.

LOCATION, LOCATION , LOCATION, this is the best feature of this hotel, you’re within a block of Boylston street and 2 blocks from Newburry street which both have lovely shops and many options for eating, if you walk them in direction to Fenway Ball Park you’ll see many restaurant options. We stayed in a junior suite on 20th floor and it had a great panoramic view of the city , the room was huge and very comfortable for 3 people, clean and well maintained room, we ordered room service and it was prompt and good as well, and the rooms are sound proof another plus. The only negative was the bathroom that was too small for that room. On the lobby you have free wireless service, and just outside the lobby you have a Starbucks café and Au Bon Pain as breakfast choices. I strongly recommend you stay in this hotel for your Boston visit.

Room Tip: Walk both Newburry and Boyltson streets towards Fenway Park and you'll find may options for eati...

Thank you for your very positive comments about the Westin Copley Place. We couldn't agree with you more on our location. We are central to everything and our hotel makes a great "home base" for your time in boston. With regards to the bathroom size, they were built that way 29 years ago and we cannot change the size of them. I don't beleive they are such that they would preclude someone from staying here, and I am conifident that the service, friendliness and as you point out, location more than make up for the bathroom size. I hope you agree...
Thank you again for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

I'm a big Starwood "snob," but have to admit this is the first time I've stayed at this Westin in Boston. If I only knew! It's a great hotel. Huge though, 36 floors. The staff is great and the rooms are nice. Showers have good water pressure. If you get a high enough floor - they have incredible views of the city and river. Wow!! Bar 10 is a great place in the hotel to get a drink or something to eat. The chowder was great!!!

Room Tip: Rooms that end in "12" are the best. Jr Suites with the most incredible views. Ones that...

Thank you so much for the wonderful comments about the Westin Copley Place. Nothing better than a good Starwood "Snob!" I was delighted to hear about your experience with our staff...we are very proud of all of them, and equally as proud of the service they provide...as you point our Bar 10 is one of the more ecclectic and happening bars in a Hotel you are going to find. A side note on the chowder you mention, we one the Boston Chowder Off 7years in a row and they will not let us compete anymore. They created the Hall of Fame for our chowder and we are the first Hall of Fame chowder to enter the Hall....we are very proud of that...if you ask the server in Turner Fisheries they have a recipe card they can give you. Once again thank you for your comments and have a wonderful Holiday weekend. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future....
