This is not some cheesy tourist boat but an actual sailboat and well worth the price of admission. You could interact with the crew and that made it even more interesting. Snacks, water & soda are provided. This was a whale watching tour and although great to see was actually secondary to the sailboat experience!

We highly recommend whale watching/sailing with the Yacht America. Not only is the ship beautiful but the crew are absolutely amazing. Al is a wealth of knowledge about the ship, the area and history. He was in the movie Master and Commander! We were also very fortunate to come back into San Deigo under sail rather than engine so that was a real treat. The Captain's dog, Louis Vitton (Louis) was also on board. All in all we had a great day. We saw dolphins a fin whale (rather rare) and several grey whales.

We arrived at the ticket booth and were told that the sailboat was not going out that day and that VIATOR who we booked it through does this all the time. And it was TRIP ADVISOR we got VIATOR through!!!

My partner and another couple went on a Valentine's whale watching adventure with this awesome group. The captain and crew were so friendly and really added to the adventure. The yacht was sold out yet everyone was so friendly it did not seem crowded. We saw dolphins, sea lions, seals, and lots of grey whales. When other boats turned around to get back to the harbor, we stayed and had a great time watching the whales. We took along champagne and hor devours to make it a really special day.

I tend to get sea-sick, so after searching for whale watching trips we decided on the America. Big plus: they offer a free meal at Anthony's if you lose your lunch.

The 139 foot long yacht is immense and immaculately maintained.

We sailed that day with the captain's daughter who was taking photographs of the whales. They post them to their facebook page after, so you can see really good quality photos.

The captain grew up here in San Diego and he's full of information about the ocean. He says he sees alot of mylar balloons in the ocean after Valentines day and other holidays. Please do not release balloons, they are harmful to aquatic creatures.

We spotted three whales, loads of dolphins and sea lions and seals.

The Captain says some boat captains get closer to the whales than what is allowed by Federal law, but there is literally nobody to enforce the laws. Poor whales.

Wear sunscreen and/or a hat. The glare off of the ocean is intense, and you may get sun-burned even on cool or cloudy days.

I have been whale watching many times on the big boats loaded woth people. This is just so much better. I highly recommend whale watching on the America.
