Whale watching aboard the "America" ketch is truly and memorable and worthwhile experience. We celebrated my wife's birthday. Al, the tour guide on board, was an excellent host with a great sense of humor and taking care of everyone's needs, safety as well as being very informative about the, the boat's history, whales and whaling history. It' great to bring a long your own sandwich and alcoholic beverages. They provide snacks, soda's and water. Beer and wine are also available at a moderate cost. Troy, the skipper/owner his very focused on finding a whale. They had a man hoisted up on the mast (as in the Crow's Nest) to lookout for whales and he spotted one. Troy followed it and stayed with quite some time giving us some great photographs. All the crew members where exceptional handling the boat and tending to all the guests needs. The America is one of the most beautiful Ketch's - made entirely or wood/Teak. It is truly and honor to be on this sailing ship. I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone local and/or visiting San Diego as a MUST do adventure!! AND with your ticket you get a pass to access to all the other Vessels at the Maritime Museum - which are many from Submarines to Sailing Schooners. A must do!!
