“Nice place for a family reunion!”
Reviewed 22 August 2011

We had two large suites for 4 person each for a long family reunion of 1 months in June/July 2011. We all enjoyed our stay.

What I liked
-- Staff are really friendly and professional; specially cleaning crew were super nice and helpful
-- Laundromat inside the hotel

What I didn't like
-- Cost! We paid over 180 per night per room
-- Breakfast items didn't have a great variety

Things to know
-- The hotel is almost far from city center and best way to go to city center is by a car (we didn't use public transit but I didn't spot any buses around the hotel)
-- There is a plaza with a grocery store and a few restaurants and coffee shops in it right next to the hotel, 1 minute walk
-- Cleaning service is not daily! The thoroughly clean the rooms once a week. They just remove the trash and do a quick cleaning everyday and if I am not mistaken that quick cleaning service is not available on Sundays
-- They serve free dinner a few times a week

The Staybridge Suites at Sorrento Mesa was on the whole a pretty average all-suite hotel that offers all of the standard services and amenities you would expect from this style of hotel.
We stayed in a "Studio" which provided a queen sized bed and a sleeper sofa and only one room. Our 4-year old daughter had little problems sleeping on the sofa bed, but the queen bed for the adults was just average. Housekeeping services (their "light touch" room cleaning) are only provided Monday-Friday unless you ask specifically for a cleaning on the weekends. The property does a full cleaning upon check out according to their printed policy.
Breakfast is provided every morning and a "Sundowner" service (beer/wine and a limited self-service dinner selection) from Monday-Thursdays. The food service, especially for breakfast, we felt was really geared toward their normal businessperson guests. At breakfast on the weekends we found the staff had difficulty keeping up with cleaning dishes and replenishing some food items in a timely manner. The food itself was of average quality for a breakfast-inclusive product.
We picked this location based on being a midpoint between Carlsbad (Legoland) and the San Diego (SeaWorld, Zoo, downtown) attractions. This worked out for us fairly well, but traffic can be an issue around rush hours Monday-Friday as Mira Mesa Blvd. is a major suburban artery.
We had no major issues and felt the hotel was safe, secure, and clean.

Stayed here for 3 nights in late May. Room was well planned with plenty of space for 2 adults and 4 kids. View overlooking the pool was welcomed. Nice breakfast with lots to choose from. Pool and bbq area were very clean and quiet. Checked out early and they had a to-go beakfast bag ready for each of us. Excellent. Shops right next door and food court also. Great location

My wife and my sister-in-law and I traveled to San Diego for a couple of days of R&R and stayed two nights at Staybridge Sorrento Mesa, which seemed a good alternative to booking two separate rooms. We appreciated the two bedroom suite. The included breakfast was nice, as was the three times a week free dinner. The staff were friendly and helpful, although they had no good suggestions for places to go jogging. There is a fitness center, but the free in-room internet led us to Los Peñasquitos Canyon reserve, which had great trails. Our room was clean and quiet. There were nearby shops and restaurants to which we could easily walk. One downside was that we left the "do not disturb" magnet up for our morning run, and apparently there is no room cleaning after the morning rounds. One other slight downside is the location in suburban San Diego, so you have to drive 20-30 minutes to get to the attractions closer to downtown. On the other hand, it's a shorter drive to Legoland. Overall, we were generally satisfied and didn't feel ripped off.

We stayed at this hotel for my neice's wedding and recommended it to several family members who stayed there also. The staff was really nice, and the hotel is clean and quiet. The free breakfast was amazing with waffles, fresh oatmeal, and specials daily. It is pet friendly and we could bring our dog. The room was a suite with a full kitchen. Parking was free (unlike downtown San Diego). All the people in our party really enjoyed it and commented on how convenient it was.

Currently here, but did not want to wait until I got home and forgot all of the "little things" that bothered me.

Yes, it is a decent hotel. Yes, it is convenient from the freeway. But that is where the charm ended for me. We arrived at 10:30 p.m. to a nearly empty parking lot (on a Friday night during the Miramar Airshow weekend) and parked right up front. We checked in right away, utilized the 24/7 shop to buy some munchies after driving all evening and then tried to hit the sack. The shop is a really great thing that a lot of these "suite" type of hotels now do, but it is costly.

Well, the first thing we noticed is that the people hanging out right below our second story window (outside on the patio) were talking. They were not loud or rude or obnoxious, but with the windows closed and the T.V. and A/C on, we could still hear them. Thin windows? No, it was probably because our room with two double beds was not made for TWO beds of any kind! One was shoved up against the window so my husband had to crawl over me to get in or out, thus we were quite close to the window! No one's fault, really. But it was sort of annoying. And when they mean double, they mean double - these beds are SMALL! However, they were comfortable. If you have a family of four, plan on using the sofa bed. If we had it to do over, we probably would have gotten the king with the sofa bed for the three of us. Two doubles are too crowded and too small!

Second thing we noticed was that the A/C was extremely LOUD and made a horrible vibrating, humming sound when it was on. The kind of sound that makes your insides squirm. We just turned it off and finally fell asleep. But you can hear your neighbor's A/C when it kicks on!

Sadly, our weekend event started at 7:30 a.m., so we had to be out of the room by 7:15. This stinks because breakfast is not served until 7:30 on the weekends! So, we did not get our complimentary grub! I did get free coffee though and it was good.

The shower curtain was stained and torn and the walls were kind of dirty. The furniture was worn down and the couch saggy. The TVs are older with not a whole lot to choose from. The ceiling obviously had a leak at one point and they tried to fix it, but it still looked bad. The fitness center and laundry facilities were closed due to "issues" - but they said they had a back-up plan if you needed it. The elevator was filthy and the carpets in the halls wet with big fans running all afternoon and evening. Another leak?

Overall, the place was just "OK." Not nearly as good as the reviews it has been getting. Mind you, I am picky, so if you want a decent place and don't care about the little things, this place will work just fine. I would likely choose to stay elsewhere next time though.

After spending ten nights in Anaheim and then four nights in Vegas, we arrived in San Diego for the last of our three stops in California. The hotel is easy to find, plenty of parking - the outside of the hotel looks very smart and modern, the reception was not quite so smart - but still very presentable including the large lounge, dining area. Although the hotel in general seemed although to be clean - a bit jaded and worn in places.

We checked in quickly and efficiently, we were booked into a 2 bedroom suite on the fourth floor, so were not really bothered by noise at all. We were facing the outside area with the pool and basket ball court - so didn't have much of a view. The suite was spacious, plenty of room (we were there for 7 nights), the kitchenette was very tiny - but adequate. Breakfast provided each day was great - hot and continental, plenty to choose from - also a free dinner 3 nights in the week, which was also very good - although not much choice, it was still plentiful which made our stay very good value for money.

We had our rooms serviced every day, what they called 'light housekeeping' - i.e. made beds, emptied bins, replaced used towels - which was more than enough.

The pool area was good - never too busy, and towels were provided - our two teenaged boys enjoyed playing basketball, you could borrow balls from the reception. There was a business suite with free internet access which was very useful, a free laundry room, plenty of washers and dryers and quite a large fitness room.

The hotel had plenty of restaurants in a small shopping centre next door which was very convenient, also a supermarket. Once we had got our bearings - it was quite quick and easy to visit the attractions in San Diego or to go downtown or to the beach. We went to both Delmar Beach and Torrey Pines State Beach - both highly recommended, very clean - the sea was quite rough and the waves big, so probably not idea for tiny children - but older kids would love it, and you could hire body boards in certain areas.

The San Diego area is very pretty and is cetainly a very nice place to spend your holiday - plenty of places to visit and things to do.
