“Undiscovered goodness”

Being the mullet king of San Diego, I have the opportunity to dine at some of San Diego's top restaurants. When my wife thought she might like to dine here for our anniversary I wasn't sure.

We grabbed a pre dinner drink at the bar and Tom helped us choose the perfect cocktail.

From the moment we sat down Natalie was awesome. She took her time to get a feel for our likes and dislikes with regards to serving speed and whatnot. she wasn't overbearing like some servers, and I have eaten at some of the finest eateries in the world.

Michael never missed a beat keeping our water filled, the delicious butter restocked and our used lates cleared. For just starting there he seems to have gotten things right fairly quickly.

My wife would chuckle every time Dennis brought our food over because he seemed so sincere and passionate about what he was presenting and his smile said it all.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and had a wonderful anniversary. Alberto was extremely professional and took the time to sit with us near the end of our meal and talk about the restaurant in general.

If I had known about this place sooner I would have been eating here every time the tasting menu changed. The food was delicious and the wine pairings were awesome. Hoping next time the sommelier will be there.

Just remember we will be back and the mullet king loves table 16.

Your staff did an awesome job.

“Lovely decor, average food.”
Reviewed 20 March 2012

The room was lovely, service and food quite average. We went for Sunday Brunch. Not worth it. Regular menu and nothing exceptional. The truffle hash browns were good, but not cooked long enough. The hotel is worth seeing, as it has been recently renovated and quite beautiful.

“Great food and service, watch out for Opera night”
Reviewed 16 March 2012

Very attentive service from Sergio. Unfortunately it was "opera" night and at least two of their classic dishes were absent from the menu: Short Ribs and Lamb Shank. (they take too long to prep). Opera was not us however, so we were disappointed. Nice upscale ambiance, though the bar was a bit cold with metal seated chairs mixed in with comfy couches. We unfortunately ended up on the metal seats. Crab dungeness risotto was excellent, as was the beet salad. Nice "by the glass" wines, and we had a wonderful Uppercut Napa cab sav bottle. Scallops entree was good, though wife thought too much olive flavor. I had the pork cheeks (with mild trepidation), they were wonderful, tender flavorful pork. Overall a great culinary experience.

“Excellent meal, impeccably served...but bring your restaurant.com certificate”
Reviewed 16 March 2012

The title says it all. This is upscale dining, with a price to go with it. But the price becomes easier to deal with if you purchase and download a restaurant.com certificate.

“Superior food and service”
Reviewed 15 March 2012

My wife and I had a wonderful meal with attentive professional service. The setting was perfect; a perfectly restored historic hotel and a nicely decorated restaurant. We had a quiet and intimate setting and found the food very enjoyable. My wife had the grilled California Sea Bass and found the preparation and portion perfect. I had Pork Cheeks with swiss chard and a distinctive winter vegetable puree. We split a Strawberry Shortcake that was not overly sweetened. Instead of a biscuit, it had twists of crust, berries, cream and a scoop of berry ice cream. Wine selection was nice.
