We stayed here on vacation. The service was excellent from the front desk to the breakfast crew to the housekeeping staff. The location is very convenient and yet still feels very residential and quiet.

All employees were bright, alert, polite, well-informed and helpful. Hilton should clone the staff and deploy everywhere. Whatever staffing and training process they use here gets great results. Everything worked the first time. While I had not been in Southern California in thirty-eight years, if I ever return, I would not consider staying anywhere else.

Ordinarily I stay at this hotel brand for business but this time it was for leisure. Loved the location, free parking, and well-thought-out and well-equipped rooms, including a Keurig, mini-fridge and microwave. Bed was very comfortable, housekeeping was immaculate, towels plentiful and fluffy. Great, convenient property.

The Hotel amenities and staff are outstanding. The location is short distance from downtown San Diego and 10 minutes from the beach. The price is inexpensive for the area. I have stayed there several times and have never been disappointed.

From the moment you check-in to the moment you check-out, you can tell that you've been well looked after by the staff. From the friendly faces at reception to the helpful wait-staff at the restaurant, nothing ever seems too hard for them. A big thank you to Alexis at front desk who provided us with unexpected complimentary breakfast for our family for both nights by slipping a handwritten note under our front door thanking us for choosing them as our "home away from home". If you get a chance to have breakfast at Bistro 39, their in-house restaurant, then you must try the Huevos Rancheros, probably the best Mexican dish I've ever tasted (admittedly the bar for Mexican food is set pretty low in Australia). The French toast with Nutella is also pretty good and the kids got a kick out of watching the self-serve waffle iron in action. The rooms, although not new, are clean and well maintained. The shower's water pressure was amazing and was very much appreciated after the drive from LA. (Car parking was free). We had two queen sized beds - one for us and one for the kids. The reception area had a fireplace which made the entrance seem very warm and inviting. Del Mar itself was a nice, quiet area to stay between Legoland at Carlsbad and San Diego itself. There's a shopping square with a few restaurants, pharmacy and supermarket for supplies 5-10 minutes drive from the hotel. We had dinner one night at Miguel's Cocina in Carlsbad after our day at Legoland - I can recommend this restaurant if you want a meal in a family restaurant serving Mexican food. As for good coffee, head to Gran Havana Cigar & Hookah Lounge for a decent latte in cool surrounds in San Diego's Gaslamp quarter on Fourth Avenue. Overall, if you have a car and you're in the San Diego region and desire quiet surrounds and great service for a very reasonable room rate, then do yourself and your family a favour by booking a night at the Hilton Garden Inn in Del Mar.
