Stayed at the Old Town Inn for 5 nights in a double queen suite - the room was very spacious and surprisingly quiet being on the highway - the staff were lovely and the included breakfast great - I would recommend the hotel but only to those who are driving.
We were not driving - when making initial enquiries we asked about travelling from the hotel to Sea World,San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park and were told it is located within easy reach of these as the transit station is across the road. Not being familiar with San Diego this sounded perfect.
It wasn't - the hotel is not located in an area that lends itself to walking - to be frank it is not a salubrious area - when I walked in the early evening to the liquor store to buy milk I was offered a lift by a dodgy character.
Travelling on public transport from the hotel was problematic - while the transit station - trolleys and MTS buses is a 5 minute walk across the highway - the wait for buses was long and even longer and very frustrating if trying to make connections - on the weekends the 150 bus the hotel had recommended taking did not even operate - we wasted a lot of holiday time waiting for transport - we did not make the Safari park which was 2 1/2 hour trip to get to by public transport from the hotel - we ended up taking taxis to get around which were quit blocks away to buy supplies - it sold very basic provisions - we really needed a car to get further afield to a proper supermarket so our kitchen was not utilised.
Another disappointment was the free wi fi which did not work from our room -staff told us that iPads were a problem with their system and their tech support told me to call Apple as there was probably something wrong with my iPad.
I would recommend Old Town Inn for travellers with cars - for those without I would stay downtown for a more pleasant experience.
