“Best Bed Ever!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 April 2012

I love this hotel. It is old style luxury with thick walls and the best bed and pillows anywhere. The location is fantastic sine you are minutes from the airport, walking distance to the Gas Lamp District where there are many restaurants and bars, directly across the street from the Westfield shopping center, near the state and federal courthouses, close to the embarcadero (walkway along the Bay), etc. The staff is very friendly and willing to help with anything you need. The windows are old and you can hear the traffic and people outside so ask for a room that does not face Broadway or Third St. Construction on the neighboring Westgate hotel can be very loud, which is why I recommend avoiding Third St.

Room Tip: Avoid facing third Ave. and Broadway

I stayed here for a business meeting held at the hotel. It's "different" being a unique historical property. Overall very nice stay and I'd give it 4.5 stars. My room faced the front street and after 9pm it was quiet enough for sleeping; I'm a complainer about noise and this was ok. Beds are luxurious and rooms are interesting.

The health club was... wait... was there one? It might have been a small room, I hardly remember. Better to bring some walking shoes and see the neighborhood.

Restaurant is good; interesting. Service people are nice/ "interesting". Food is good / expensive.

The hospitality for my company meeting event was very good and I'd recommend we have another meeting there in the future.

Wonderful week at the Grant . Incredible room and very friendly and helpful staff. Location was great for seeing the city and so many restaurants nearby. I was at a conference at convention center it was an easy walk away. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Room Tip: Overlooked the garden and the room was very quiet.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel end of March early April for a total of six nights - two separate reservations. We must say it is one of the finest hotels that we have stayed at and we have traveled extensively in Europe, the US and Canada. We had three different rooms - the Deluxe, Grand Deluxe and for our last two nights were upgraded to the Landmark suite. We enjoyed all three rooms but preferred the shower arrangement in the Deluxe and suite as opposed to the jacuzzi with shower in the Grand deluxe.

We contacted the hotel before we left home requesting an earlier check in than the standard. Megan responded, unfortunately can't recall her last name, and she was extremely helpful and was responsible for the complimentary upgrade to the suite.

All of the staff were extremely personable and helpful, whether in the lounge/dining room, front desk, concierge, bell men. Breakfast was included during part of our stay and it was excellent.

Location is great - Gas lamp Quarter with tons of restaurants just around the corner, Little Italy with very nice restaurants only a short walk away, perhaps 20 to 30 minutes, and Seaport Village and Petco Park also close by.

We also took advantage of the arrangement with the Westin Gaslamp hotel to use their pool which is only a couple of blocks from the Grant.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone and will definitely make it our choice if/when we return to San Diego.

Room Tip: High floors are better with respect to possible street noise. However, we had rooms on the 4th, 10th...

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this hotel. Unfortunately, have been remiss in wifi ting a review, though. Stayed last summer on two different occasions and thoroughly enjoyed both stays. This hotel is in a few short steps to the gaslamp district so tons of choices for food and entertainment. Also located within a 10 minute (max) taxi ride to the airport. The service is impeccable, rooms absolutely stunning (and clean, always important in my book). Every staff member is encountered from the valet to front desk, to housekeeping were always gracious, welcoming, helpful and seemed genuine in their interaction with customers. I highly recommend this hotel. It can be a be bit pricey, but worth it, in my opinion.

US Grant is the best, or one of the best, hotels where I've stayed. I was on a business trip, with a very busy agenda, but this luxury hotel made my stay very pleasent. Especially the breakfast with fresh fruits and delicious omelets was a great way to start the day. I also enjoyed the gym, just go there before 7 a.m. before it gets too crowded. The location of the hotel is ideal if you're attending a congress in the Convention Center, less than 10min walk from there and shopping mall, restaurants etc are just accross the street.

I recently stayed at The US Grant and found the hotel to be exceptional in every way. My room was beautifully decorated and spotless. The bed was very comfortable with many pillows to choose from.

The staff was very friendly and more than willing to help. The concierge, Joseph Valdez, was especially helpful in guiding me to the best restaurants and planning my daytime activities. Even though there are many great restaurants within walking distance, be sure to dine at Grant Grill in the hotel where the food and service are excellent.
