Grand hotel in the middle of everything San Diego has to offer.
Room was spotless.
Great bed with many pillows. Large shower with many towels.
AC kept the room cool during a very hot week.
Customer service was top notch form the parking valet to the front desk.

This hotel is a gem in the Gaslamp District. I was attending a conference at the San Diego Conference Centre and was glad to be out of the hustle and bustle of the conference area. It was a nice walk to the conference each morning. I had a beautiful room, despite the windows overlooking the interior there was still a view of the city and beautiful natural light pouring into the room through the huge windows. Everything was immaculate and the bed was the most comfortable I've had in any hotel. The art and detailing in each room makes the hotel even more special. I booked through Priceline and was given a standard two bedroom room. I would stay here again in a heartbeat, highly recommended.

For a step back in time to when hoteliers took pride in elegance and customer service look no further than US Grant. This classic historic hotel is situated at the edge of San Diego's historic Gaslamp district, and a short walk to the Convention Center, waterfront, and city attractions. Elegantly and classically appointed, the US Grant (a Starwood property) is a welcome change from the homogenized appearance and feel of the major chains.

I stayed at the US Grant while attending a 2-day business conference. The guest room was spacious and elegantly appointed. Nightly turn-down service created a welcoming respite from the stresses of the day. The conference rooms were excellent, and the food service during breakfast and the large group lunch was outstanding. And the fitness center (open 24 hours) had more than an adequate appointment of cardio and free weight equipment as well as complimentary bottles of water and ear buds. The staff, from the Front Desk down to the housekeeping staff was cheerful, courteous and very helpful.

Overall this was a delightful stay.

Room Tip: Convenient to Gaslamp district, restaurants, Convention Center.

If you are interested in old luxury without giving up any comfort, this hotel is great. The service is 5 stars and the facilities are luxurious. The lobby alone is a museum. Yes, the rooms are smaller than a new cookie cutter Hilton. This hotel gives you unique charm and something to write home about. I found the staff to be very well trained and I had no issues. Walking distance to great food and easy to get anywhere in the city. An American classic luxury hotel.

Thank you, nickcucinella, for your review! We take great pride in upholding the storied legacy of our 1910 hotel, while also modernizing our facilities and features for today's travelers. Earlier this year, we completed a $13 million refresh as a testament to our commitment. During your stay, did you have the opportunity to join the Concierge for a lobby tour or take one of our self guided tour booklets? We hope to welcome you back again soon.

Positives: this hotel is in a great location to walk to main attractions, run on water, has good breakfast, and is beautiful with a solid fitness center.
Negatives: service on check in was ridiculous. We were told initially room ready at noon, then they said could be up to 3pm but to check back. I told them I haven't sleep and if there was anyway someone could clean my room early. So I checked back at 2pm. I was told "just a few minutes." And at 4pm no room so it's an hour past check in. I sat by the front desk for 2 hours and had little sleep - 3 hours - the night before. And no one really cared. I have stayed all over the world, and I have never had a hotel change check in times so many times and be so wishy washy. I was already tired and it completely messed up my day. I will never stay here again. San Diego downtown also has Lots of homeless people and I saw one get arrested in front of the hotel. The homeless population is out of control here. And to top that off, you will pay 50$ a night for parking. A TRUE rip off. I have never seen parking this high. We will NEVER stay here again. Go stay in La Jolla or Del Mar by the beach.

Robert B, Hotelier at THE US GRANT, a Luxury Collection Hotel, San Diego, responded to this reviewResponded August 2, 2017

Yes katravler, we can confirm that check-in time, especially on weekends are never before 3 PM. That is surely the case at our popular property where we are completely full each of the summer weekends. Please plan for dropping your bags off while enjoying downtown or arriving after 4 PM. We are very sorry you had to be patient for a little longer. Yes also to the valet parking for overnight which is the norm here in this part of town. We hope you will find another home away from home and are certainly sad it won't be us again. But neverthelss, enjoy your summer and thank you for your constructive feedback.
