“Great hotel, excellent location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2012

This was an excellent hotel and our main reason for choosing it was its location. Not only a great location but very clean and great service too. The main lobby was extremely spacious with a piano, clean hallways, clean rooms and bathrooms. The actual room was well furnished with a comfortable king bed. Absolutely no complaints except for the food and drinks selection...

We had a couple drinks at the bar but their draft beer selection is lacking (only Bud Light?!?!) so I went with the local Stone beer which was good. The breakfast wasn't bad but nothing to write home about. On the following days we just went to Coffee Bean Tea Leaf. We did not eat lunch or dinner there judging by the breakfast and we looked at a menu.

Like I said above, location is everything. You are in walking distance to the Amtrak (which we took in), the bay, Horton Plaza, Gaslamps, Seaport village, basically everything. For anything else I would recommend the Old Town Trolley Tours to see the rest of the city.

Highly recommended __IF__ you head over to the Gaslamps for food and drinks since there are plenty in that area!

Room Tip: We asked for a room with a view and we were able to see the bay through 2 building...but it is possi...

Not a great view, but for the price, it's a great stay. Walkable distance from good food and night life. I would stay here again.

Our room was large and well appointed. Extremely comfortable bed. The architecture of this hotel is stunning. The staff is the best, ever. We had a problem with noisy neighbors and the staff was immediately responsive and took care of the situation. The lounge is a great place for a drink and a bite to eat. There is a discount for hotel guests. The breakfast is the best I've ever had. Try the vegetarian eggs benedict or the oatmeal with orange sugar brûlée. Valet parking is half price if you drive a hybrid -- how cool is that! Speaking of cool, the location is great and the bus terminal referred to in some old reviews was torn down years ago. No noise problem from the street.

The hotel staff was frIendly. The hotel was very clean. The rooms were nice. The location at 1st and Broadway was perfect. Centrally located between the water, Gaslamp and Little Italy. Staying here would have been nicer if there was a pool, larger fitness facility and a place to sit outside and enjoy a beautiful San Diego evening. One of my favorite thing to do when visiting California is to relax around a fire pit and enjoy some cocktails. San Diego is a beautiful and very calm city. The Bristol overall was a nice hotel.

Perfect location within walking distance of everything. We had trouble with the hot water - we either wouldn't get any or the shower would be hot then cold then hot again. The pocket doors to the bathroom weren't ideal and our view was of a wall (beside the elevator). Other than that this hotel was great. Front desk staff was fabulous and we received a call soon after we checked in to make sure the room was satisfactory. The lobby was beautiful and the free wifi in the room was a nice touch. We also received half off the dinner menu at the restaurant which was so great and a relief from otherwise high prices in San Diego!

We booked this room for a VERY reasonable rate and loved its central location to the Gaslamp quarter. The room had been recently renovated, and after flying in that night from the east coast, I was glad to fall into a clean and cozy bed. There was a sorority holding a formal in the hotel, but management made sure to put all hotel patrons who were not part of that party on separate floors away from them. It was a very wise decision, as I know those dances can get rowdy. However, it was not those revelers that woke me up that night, but the Greyhound station across the street announcing the departure and arrival of buses. I am not a light sleeper, but it woke both my family and me up. In the morning, we requested a room on the other side of the hotel (the backside), and it was much quieter. I was not awoken (neither was anyone else) all night. If you get a room in the front, I would rate this hotel poor. If you get a room at the back, I would rate it very good.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the back of the hotel to escape the noise from the Greyhound station across the str...

This is my second stay at the Bristol.
The first time was in May 2011 for a weekend trip to San Diego. The second stay was this past weekend for a conference.
The official conference hotel was the Marriott Marquise, but I figured it was better for me to be 10 minute walk away from the crowd surrounding me during the conference.

The hotel is in a strategic position: only three blocks away from the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter and 10 minutes from the Convention Center. Thus, the location is convenient with the advantage of being also quiet and relaxing.

The Bristol looks recently renovated. Its decor is elegant and tasteful. The rooms are comfortable and the staff is professional and friendly.

The rooms are provided with free wi-fi, cable TV, blow dryer, bath robe, snacks and beverage (for payment). Among the hotel amenities, it's worth mentioning a fitness center; a complimentary lobby business station with printer; restaurant/bar/lounge; and valet parking.

In sum, I highly recommend this hotel.
