Our shuttle driver at our hotel recommended Blue Water as a great place to get seafood in San Diego. When we arrived there around 7:00 in the evening, the line was out the door (this is a "hole in the wall" kind of place). We returned the next day around 4:00 in the afternoon and got right in. And that involves standing at the counter and choosing your fish (halibut, sword, etc.), then selecting the presentation (taco, salad, dinner plate) and finally, the preparation (butter and lemon, garlic lemon, teriyaki, etc.). We found a seat on their covered patio and within a short time, were served our plates of sword and halibut with a small salad a jasmine rice. The fish was delicious and the portions were generous! We would definitely return! The bill came to about $50.00, but we felt it was worth it for the quality. But the atmosphere is VERY casual!

Our experience was memorable from our first visit last year, we went back to Blue Water Seafood just this past Saturday night just before 6 pm. Finding a parking spot was a significant challenge for the first time, but we got lucky and found a parking space within steps of the front door. Unfortunately, the line was out the door. We budgeted our time and were able to tough out the delay.

The meals were outstanding as expected. We had the salmon and wahoo plates. The fillets were fresh and tasty and we like the seafood soup as well. The prices were very reasonable to boot. However, we will most likely to look for another place with less challenges and testings of patience to get to the table on our next visit.

We would recommend to give them a try for anyone interested in great food at affordable prices and don't mind to fight for a parking spot and stand in line.

Great food and service. Had to wait in line to order. Lots of fresh seafood choices. Pick your fish, pick your sauté/preparation. Pick your final meal: plate, sandwich, or salad. Yum. Great fish and chips. Great fish tacos. Great Seared Ahi tuna. Parking is a premium. They do NOT serve coffee

A group of us in town for a convention decided to try this out on the recommendation of the hotel concierge. It was Saturday lunch so we expected a wait and indeed stood in line for 45 minutes. There were 7 of us so we sampled a wide variety of dishes and no one was disappointed. So, rather than recommend anything in particular I say order whatever strikes your fancy and I doubt you will regret it.

This place is located along International Restaurant Row - which means there's very little parking but the resto options are plentiful and yummy!

No fancy service, cloth table coverings, silverware or glassware. You order (pick a fish, how you want it prepped (blackened, grilled, and with what marinades - lemon pepper, ginger, teriyaki are some good ones) and how you want it served (Salad, sandwich, taco style), take your number and find a seat. There's a small covered patio and about 10 tables inside. Everything is freshly prepared, so be patient.

Good luck in getting drink refills, too. When it gets crowded, hard to find someone to help out.

We tried:
Ahi Poke which is served with plenty of large fried wontons. Some people expect rice. You don't get that here. The Poke is fresh, garlicky and you get a decent portion for $11. They also have salmon poke.

Mahi Mahi grilled with Lemon garlic - ginormous sandwich, soft roll.

Cod and Shrimp tacos - these tacos are HUGE. Plenty of fish, cabbage is nicely shredded. The shrimp was a little overdone, but still tasty.

We also had a side of waffle fries - seriously good - ask for a side of ranch!

Also - they have HUGE chocolate chunk cookies - grab one to nosh on later.

FYI - this is also a fish market, so come in and order some seafood to take home and prep as you wish.

Note you can also call in ahead for pick up.
