Jacques 1534 is a small local eatery with a an old time 1800's (?) antique bar.
The ambience to me had an old European feel with cracked plaster walls, antique reproduction pictures and fixtures. There are booths and tables. Some local NY'ers were hanging out at the bar enjoying themselves which gave the place a warm neighborly and jovial feeling.
The menu had a lot of choices. My Aunt and I enjoyed excellent dinner worthy of five stars, perfect drinks and gracious timely service! I had the Bronzino with capers and garlic with fresh toasted bread. My Aunt enjoyed the French Onion Soup, mussels in white sauce and frites. We both had a cocktail each. The cost for each including the tip was $60.00.
I highly recommend Jacques for a lovely reasonably priced dinner off the beaten path on Prince (near Mulberry).
The WC (bathroom) was a bit stinky but in NYC they are not easy to find, so happy that it was there for our use.
