A little piece of old America, right here in our own backyard.

Must see for history buffs. Not only did Washington take his oath on these steps it is also where NY began.

We stepped into Federal Hall having no idea what it was, but wanted to get out of the pouring rain. Luckily we stepped into history! The exhibits are interesting (one on Alexander Hamilton, one on George Washington's inauguration etc.) and we learned things about both men.

There were hardly any other visitors (which is sad) so we asked one of the Park Rangers to tell us about the actual building as most of the exhibits talk about what USED to be there, not what is there now. He chatted with us for about 20 minutes, telling us all kind of cool facts and showing us things that aren't on any displays. It's a beautiful building with lots of history and he knew his stuff! I wish more people knew about Federal Hall as it's worth a visit and it's FREE!

Definitely stop by if you are in the Financial District. It's a hidden gem...

It may not be the original building, but it's an interesting site to visit and learn about the beginning of our nation.

This should be included when you're way downtown, especially since it's a block from Trinity Church and across from the NYSE. Gives a good overview of the history of the early Republic as well as that of New York. And special exhibits can be very interesting.
