“Lovely hotel - brilliant staff”
Reviewed 30 June 2012

This was my second stay at the Distrikt and much better than the first. Overall, it's a great hotel for the price in the middle of the city.

Great staff - informative, friendly
Rooms are a good size for the city and clean and nice decor.
Central location - a couple of blocks from Times Square, near a number of subway lines - it is directly opposite the side of Port Authority which is unattractive, and maybe noisy on the lower floors. We had a room at the back of the hotel and it was silent all night.

Only irritation was that the teas/coffees weren't replaced every day. When you're paying the same rate as a new guest would, your room should have the same facilities refreshed. But when we asked for some, they were brought up by the staff.

Overall, if you get it on a deal (as we did), it's a great location in an expensive city.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher level and at the back.

From the time I made the reservation to the time we checked out, our experience with this hotel was fantastic. My husband and I wouldn't stay anywhere else if we returned to New York.

Lauren assisted me by phone with answering my many questions and making the reservation, and also left a personal, handwritten note in the room for us when we checked in. When she learned it was our first time in NY and we were staying for 10 days, she ensured we were booked into one of the square-shaped rooms (numbers end in 01 or 02) rather than the rectangular-shaped rooms (numbers end in 03-05), as they are configured to give more usable space - greatly appreciated.

We found the size of the room to be larger than we had expected for the middle of Manhattan; we weren't tripping over each other the way we have in some other downtown big-city hotels we've stayed in. The king bed was very comfortable, if a little softer than I prefer. The shower was a good size, and there was lots of counter space in the bathroom. All the standard amenities, including coffee maker, hair dryer, in-room safe, flat-screen tv, iron and ironing board. But best of all, the room was immaculately clean, and this is coming from someone who is pretty fussy about these things. The linens looked as though they were brand new, and there wasn't a speck of dust anywhere. I had inquired when I made the reservation about the steps they take to prevent against bedbugs; suffice to say they take it very seriously, take significant prevention steps, and have never had an outbreak.

There are so many little touches at this hotel - free wi-fi, free use of computers and printing in the lobby, brownies in the room at check-in, weather forecast card and chocolates placed in the room during turn-down each night. The staff are very welcoming and helpful - they greeted us each time we exited and entered the hotel, and answered countless questions about how to best get to points of interest in the city.

The location of is great - a short walk to the Theatre District, Restaurant Row and subway stations, but not in the middle of the chaos of Times Square. The area is not unsafe or even unsavory. There are several hotels in a row on the street so lots of people coming and going at all hours. There is a significant NYPD presence in the Times Square and surrounding area; we never felt uneasy.

From location to staff to cleanliness to amenities - everything was just excellent, and also an excellent value, and you really couldn't go wrong booking a stay here.

Room Tip: Ask for a room ending in number 01 or 02, as they are configured to provide more usable space.

Let me start off saying "there is no way that this is a four star hotel". The room is a modern twist on a comfort inn room (budget friendly). At the end of the day it is a nicer Choice Hotel branded property. If you are looking for something luxurious this is not the place for it. As for the stay itself, the hotel is pleasant. The staff was all smiles and the location is decent. Nothing disappointing nothing memorable.

Stayed here for one night while in NYC on business and for a wee bit of R&R. They treated us right, with not the least bit of pretension, even on a discounted rate, and put us on the 31st floor with a view of the Empire State Building and a partial view of the Hudson. Rooms are small, and somewhat basic but tidy and clean with good beds and decent sized bathrooms with shower and quality toiletries. Generally the place has minimalist but tasteful and fun decor. There are 3 Apple computers in the lobby for guests to use and free wifi in the rooms. There are only 4-5 rooms on each floor. Didn't try the restaurant/bar but there is so much to try on 9th Avenue from pizza to ethnic food, don't miss that! If you're headed to the Theatre District and Times Square both are a short walk. We walked here from NY Penn Station after arriving on Amtrak. Definitely check out the Distrikt hotel, it deserves the great reviews its getting here.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor.

In town to see a ballet and Zarkana for the weekend and picked this hotel based on TripAdvisor reviews, once again TA did not steer me wrong. This is a great little boutique hotel very near Times Square and the Theatre district, half a block from a metro stop for the ABC lines, and a block from countless restaurants and bars in the Hells Kitchen district. You can get here direct from the airport via the AirTrain and Line A or Line E for $7.25. The rooms are small but pretty and comfortable and extremely well maintained. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, the best I've encountered in Manhattan hotels. Free wireless throughout and there are 3 new Mac computers for use by guests in the lobby to look up things to do or print boarding passes. It's not the most savory view out the front door (directly across from the port authority) but the location otherwise is really quite excellent. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the Distrikt for 10 days in May, and yes - it does deserve all the fabulous reviews it gets. Everything about this hotel was flawless - the room (on the 27 floor) was large, and had an amazing view of the city. It was super clean, very nicely decorated and smelled great. The bathroom was well equipped and the shower was a real pamper (very large sized!).
The coffee machine was a great addition which we used a lot. The little details added to our joy - morning newspaper, chocolate every evening, weather card.
And the front desk and management - a dream team. Salutes to the hotel owners/management for picking such service-oriented, friendly, professional and welcoming staff.
I've stayed in many hotels in NY, and the Distrikt has been the best. We'll be back!

We were in town to see "Potted Potter", and do some sightseeing at the Intrepid, and the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island. The hotel was in the perfect spot for all three! It was easy to find, had a parking garage right next door (Peach parking), and was around the corner from the Little Shubert theater, a close walk to the Intrepid, and on the same block to the subway for the Statue of Liberty.

We arrived very early and they checked our luggage so that we could go off and sight-see. When we got back, we found the room was clean and comfortable, a comfy bed and top-notch air conditioning. Not much view from the 9th floor and the hotel bar (the Collage) was pricey (but the "Tribeca" was worth it.) The room had all the typical amenities: wifi, hairdryer, iron, etc... What really stood out about the Distrikt was how unbelievably friendly EVERYONE was, from the guys who helped with our luggage to the wonderful cleaning lady who joked with us about the crowded elevator as she stepped aside to let us take it over :) Everyone was welcoming, had suggestions for things to do and places to eat, and what really struck was just how much everyone seemed to enjoy their jobs.

The lobby had two computers with free internet, the room had free Wifi, and the free iced-tea and coffee in the lobby were great touches. The next time we are in NYC, we plan to stay at the Distrikt!
