“Decent location, but fabulous staff!”
Reviewed 15 May 2012

My husband and I stayed here during a long weekend getaway. Our taxi driver had a little bit of a hard time finding it (seems to be quite new), but no problems once we got there. We got into the city early and a room wasn't available, but staff readily stored our luggage while we were out. We were warmly greeted back to the hotel with a glass of wine from the friendly door man. It was so nice to sip this and relax while finalizing check-in. Rooms were large for NYC standards......plush beds, showers with room for two, and even little balconies! Location is close enough to walk just five or six blocks to Times Square or Fifth Avenue, but we were actually surprised when looking for some late night food on Saturday that there were barely any restaurants open within the few blocks surrounding the hotel.
This hotel is located in Little Brazil......you must try the Brazilian food and ciapirinhas! We had a cocktail at the hotel restaurant one night before the ballet and were very happy with our selections, service, and the enthusiasm of the staff.
We would definitely stay here again.

Good - the location is perfect for a tourist and really can't be bettered at all. Rooms are large and modern and the bathroom is a great size and very nicely done. Wine sitting by the door so you can pick up a glass after a heavy day shopping was a nice touch.

Bad - Rooms are really dark with poor lighting, especially if you get allocated one not on the street side at which point it's really hard to see the benefit of a large balcony overlooking a blank wall with the noise of the air conditioning units blasting at you. There's no proper reception or lounge for guests, so if you check out and need to spend time back at the hotel before your flight there's nowhere comfy to sit and relax.

We were so happy with our choice to stay here. From the minute we walked in and were seated with wine for check-in, things just went smoothly! The skyline room was nice and the balcony was a perfect way to end each evening. The staff was great and very helpful.

Room Tip: Balcony is a big perk!

I came into the city to spend 4 days for work. I am an anxious traveler and was familiar with the tiny rooms for $350 that NYC has to offer. Didn't want that. Took a chance on the Gotham and was rewarded. Everyone I encountered was polite, helpful. I did book a Skyline room and it was very nice. Not as big as I would have thought looking at the pictures but that is every room in NYC. Still plenty big. Balcony was huge with a table and chairs. Bed was really comfy.. huge tv for NY standards, the rainfall shower and hotel ammenities were awesome. Bathroom was big :)
While the skyline was pricy as expected.. they did let me see a level 2 or 3 room while I was there and it was just as nice if not close to the same size. Soundproofing in this hotel is worht every penny. I was on the 11th floor, front of the house and heard NOTHING except on Garbage night. Great coffee shop and a dunkin doughnuts downstairs.
$ well spent. Very happy. And I'm usually not lol.

Room Tip: High floor.. Front of house :)

My stay at The Gotham Hotel was delightful. From the welcome glass of wine and friendly check in, to a comfortably large room with an amazing pillow-top down bed and C.O. Bigelow bath products, I would definitely return. The staff was very friendly and helpful and while in a busy part of the city, there was limited noise. A great location near many NYC attractions and free wi-fi. Oh, and I must mention there are balconies. Fabulous! I would definitely recommend for others to enjoy a stay at The Gotham.

Room Tip: My recommendation for all NYC locations: request a room away from the main street to reduce outside...

Took a weekend trip to see the sights in New York, and this hotel was perfect! It is in a great location, all the staff was readily available, helpful and pleasant. The view from our balcony was a brick wall, but we had a balcony! The balconies at the front of the hotel overlook the street, which would be cool. The room was just big enough, and the glass-door and tile shower was very nice. They even have Gotham Hotel robes! It is just a few blocks to Times Square, Grand Central Station, and even Central Park. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel for a view overlooking the street.

The Gotham Hotel @ 46th st. between Madison & 5th Ave., is perfect when exiting Grand Central Station, by the Madison Ave / 45th St underground walkway. It is an easy walk to MOMA, Radio City, Rockefeller Center, even to Central Park, which is an easy 14 block walk on a nice NYC day.
This new hotel has very clean, well appointed, comfotable rooms with a small walk out balcony, floors 2-9' facing 47th. Upper floors have walk out terrace. Our queen size bedroom on the 9th floor for $227, with tax, was perfect for our needs and very reasonable compared to other NYC hotels. A glass of wine is offered upon arrival in the very small lobby while the very friendly staff checks you in in their small office.

I would stay there again.
