“Very nice stay in a very pleasant hotel”
Reviewed 6 March 2012

The hotel is in a great neighborhood. Some good restaurants, shopping, easy to access the rest of the city via subways.

The room had two queen-sized beds, good free internet access, and was reasonably well equipped. The shower was fine as well. Nothing fancy, but all nice and clean. The elevator at busy hours was slow. The free breakfast was pretty good. Again, not fancy, but good omelette-like breakfast the first day and so-so scrambled eggs and bacon day 2. Cut up fresh fruit, bagels, etc. and coffee. The breakfast room and general ambience was nice. I personally love not having to pay extra for every little thing (breakfast, coffee, internet, ...). Also, they had hot cider and cookies out in the afternoons when we returned.

We didn't really ask for much from staff, but when I stayed on after breakfast to work on my computer, they cheerfully worked around me. When my daughter realized an hour after we had checked out (we were sill in the city) that she'd left her ipod charger in the room, we called and left a message with housekeeping, who brought it to reception by the time we checked out.

I wrestled with four stars or five and decided to go with four. While it met my expectations (or better) for an affordable NY hotel (I used HHonors points this time), it is not the same as a great hotel that also meets my expectations (e.g., the Grand Bretagne in Athens). So, I am giving it a four star recommendation. I think it is similar to but slightly better than the Sheraton Four Points in Chelsea, for which I don't appear to have written a review. We will return to this hotel.

I have stayed in several similar size properties in the Chelsea/Flat Iron area. Without hesitation, I can report my recent week-long Hampton Inn stay was the absolute best experience. The location simply cannot be beat - you are within two blocks of a station for every major subway line. Walking distance to all the great restaurants in Chelsea, up 9th, in the Flat Iron and Gramercy areas. Union Square is an easy walk and you are ideally located for some of the best weekend antique markets. The staff is across the board friendly and helpful. The free breakfast buffet is surprisingly substantial and well done. If you are looking for an ideally located property with exceptional service, look no further.

Excellent location. Lovely breakfast - saves going out and looking for somewhere to eat first thing in the morning. Very helpful staff - especially Daniel on reception. Safety deposit box available in reception. Rooms and bathrooms clean. Excellent shower. Rooms not huge, but big enough for two of us, our suitcases and all our shopping. After all you don't go to New York to sit in your room! Excellent view of the city, near various subway stations and many shops and cafes on the doorstep. A lovely hotel and cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room high up and away from the lift. It is not totally quiet, but it is New York the city...

Stayed here for six nights in late February and early March 2012. We booked the hotel as part of a package deal with ebookers which included return flights with Virgin Atlantic.
The location is great, just off 6th Avenue, two minutes walk from the tube station at 23rd and 6th (around 75 minutes from JFK with one tube change). We were given room 601. A fantastic room with a huge bed looking out onto a courtyard at the back of the hotel. Cleanliness of the room was fantastic.
Breakfast is served on the ground floor between 6-10am. This consists of hot items (two items per day on a rolling tots - scrambled egg and bacon; sausage patties and omelette; Spanish omelette and fried potatoes), fresh fruit, yoghurts, bread and pastries, juice and the highlight (for me as I had one each morning!), a make your own waffle machine.
Service from the reception was exceptional from check in to check out.
The only disappointment for us was after check out. We had left our bags to explore the city on our last day before our plane left at 6pm. On return to the hotel, we used the reception toilet and found it in a dreadful state. What a shame as a last reminder for this excellent hotel.
With this matter aside we would wholeheartedly recommend the hotel to others and on a return visit to NYC we will check this place out.

We stayed at Hampton Inn, Chelsea for 9 days in February and were very pleased with service and thoughtfulness of the hotel. While breakfast was free, the hotel made sure that there was something different every day. They rotated 3 different breakfasts each day. Besides your usual bread and butter stuff, there were fresh fruit, omelettes, waffles etc. This was even better than my stay in Hilton, St Pete a week earlier which only served cold breakfasts. The only thing better at the Hilton was the Starbucks coffee and proper fresh juices.

As for the desk staff, they were very helpful with directions and I managed to get to LaGuardia using the train and bus (US$4.50) with their directions.

Another thoughtful thing they did, seeing it was winter, was putting out cookies and hot cider from 3pm onwards. Coming in after a day in the cold, this was very good for us to warm up.

The rooms were adequate and although small, it was normal by NYC standards. We had a room on the 14th floor and it was nice and quiet. The hotel being on the 24th Street was also just nicely away from the bustle and noise.

Another great aspect of this hotel was its proximity to 5 different subways. We could get to anywhere using the trains.

Good location, a block from Union Square. Small hotel, small lobbey but everything is clean and convenient. Hallways are tight and rooms are small but most NYC rooms are the same size. Room looked like it was recently updated.

Have to say, this place is a Gem and fantastic location. I stayed here in Feb 2012 whist on a biz trip. Staff on the front desk and really helpful and friendly & found them very professional overall. Rooms are slightly bigger than other 'budget' hotels i've stayed at in NYC. Breakfast was quite rushed as I left it rather late before it finished however the selection was superb ie. lots of delicious fresh fruit, oatmeal, selection of cereal & yogurt. Rooms were really clean & you could tell they went the extra mile to ensure room equipment such as remotes were sterilized after each use. Did not use the gym but I read it was small yet sufficient. Wireless was also super fast.

For any budget brides to be planning a trip to NYC to hunt for their ideal wedding gown - David's bridal is literally around the corner from this hotel and would be a ideal location. RK bridal is also about 12/14 blocks away.
