The people are real, the food authentic and the ambiance gives you the feel as though you are in Colombia. A must visit for lunch or dinner if you are in NY.

At the suggestion of one nephew, we took another nephew to Esperanto as he was touring with his band across the country. On a beautiful Sunday, it was nice to drive down to this neighborhood from Westchester County (although FDR traffic was brutal!) but street parking was touch-and-go; you stand a better chance of finding a spot on the weekend. Although we were seated fairly quickly, service overall was a tad slow; once we got our meals, however, we were left to enjoy great plates of food! I ordered the ovos (huevos) ranchero which was quite filling; the nephew was pleased with his kale salad with chicken and the wife with her waffles. We still had issues with coffee refills and the check but I would return and give them another shot!

Esperanto qualifies as a "neighborhood gem". We used to frequent it when we lived in the neighborhood, but it had probably been a year since our last visit before visiting for brunch over Labor Day weekend. The menu is largely what we remembered, but was always a nice mix of standard fare and some more exotic dishes with a Latin slant. Perhaps there's a new chef? I ordered a familiar specialty dish (Ovos Loisada), and it was beautifully prepared, with perfectly poached eggs, and tasted even better than I remembered. Fresh fruit was beautifully fresh and attractively presented; coffee excellent, as were the "brunch cocktails". The prices have risen significantly, but I found the improved quality worth a few extra dollars. Service was friendly and efficient, as always.

We loved the decor of this place! We felt as though we stepped off the streets of NYC and into Brazil. The food was also very good and authentic. We came for brunch. Not too busy, were able to get in without a wait and it was a beautiful day so sat outside on their patio area. Good servers and good ambience. Overall, worth a brunch visit.

Dropped by for lunch and pitchers of drinks. Got a great seat outside. Fun and casual, would definitely go back.
