“A Church like no other”

Church of Saint Mary the Virgin
Reviewed April 3, 2017

This Church , besides being architecturally beautiful, is the nicest church that I have ever attended. It is a Catholic Church and I attended Mass on Sunday morning. Having attended Masses throughout the US and Europe, this was, by far, the most pleasant and uplifting experience that I have ever had. The staff was incredibly friendly and gracious. It just might make you want to be a Catholic (again)!

Known for its very unique place in the life of the Anglo-Catholic stream of the Episcopal Church, the music and architecture here are both of legend, will leave the visitor with many memories of just how exceptional Manhattan is in its embrace of the variety that the city has to offer.

Stepped in this Church by chance. Was wandering in the crowded Times Square on our last day in New York. Mainly to avoid the crowd took the street. To our surprise we found this Church. The quiet and sober interior was a sharp contrast to the maddening Times Square. Despite the time was not meant for service, many were offering their personal prayers.

If you are close to Times Square then you must stop in and visit. It is FREE. The Church was founded in 1868 and is very historic with one of the finest Gothic architectures in NYC. Definitely worth a visit.

It is also a safe haven for the homeless so if you stop in and see any be sure to be thankful for what you have. And say a little silent prayer for those who don't.

Enjoy the pictures!

So close to Times Square, if you want a break in a truly lovely, peaceful setting, stop by here. When you enter, look up at the blue, star-studded ceiling. It's magical. Then take a seat or stroll around to look at the chapels. It will put you in the right frame of mind before you head back into the crowds.
