I had no idea cauliflower naan existed! Great bartender, very knowledgeable about the cocktail recommendations we needed. Samosa appetizer was good, and the paneer tikka masala sauce was a little thin, but had good flavor. The only downside was the lack of attention from our waiter. We were sent the check before we ordered dessert, and the waiter almost seemed upset by the fact that we wanted to continue eating.

My wife and I went here for the first time, and I've been wondering ever since why I didn't enjoy it more. The place is decorated like a "real" restaurant and is very clean. There's an upstairs dining room, but the stairs looked too steep for us. The service is prompt and professional. The waiter made a recommendation that turned out to be correct. The food, however, was just OK. Not as spicy and tasty as we expect from Indian food. The chicken dish I had didn't seem to be cooked enough to make it tender. However, I was surprised when I saw the bill, and realized that since we had to pay for every side dish, including rice, the cost mounts up. $14 for a bowl of lentils that were very bland. $6 for rice, even though we shared it. $6 for naan. They don't sound like much individually, but they kind of made me yearn for the Indian restaurants with not-so-fancy decor where the food is so good you can't stop eating and your dinner includes some sides.

Are people confusing Awadh with Alam, an excellent restaurant that sadly closed a few months? Awadh deserves no raves. First, the welcome: "Do you have a reservation?" If we had, we would have told you. Next, the décor: A matter of taste, of course; and if the idea of eating in a Raymour and Flanagan showroom appeals, you will feel right at home. The food: Thin, watery, dull sauces--and since when do Indian restaurants charge for rice? The service: Somewhere between ingratiating and supercilious. The price: Way inflated. If you want very good Indian food, walk up a few blocks to Maharajah Palace. Bring your own beer or wine, and you will have a far superior meal for half the price--but watch the floors; they are dangerously slippery.

Hi Akamother55,
Thank you for your review and the candid feedback. Let me start off by saying, there is no confusion. We are certainly not Alam and will never went to be! If you are a frequent diner at Alam and Maharajah Palace, then you have very different ideas of what Indian food really is, or how it is supposed to taste. Good Indian food and quality ingredients come at a price. A price that diners at Awadh realize what they are paying for, just as diners at Tulsi, Junoon or Tamarind knkw what they are paying for. Indian restaurants charge for rice in places that don't serve buffets, aka, Awadh. Why would rice be a free item? It takes a lot of effort to cook rice. Perfect long grained basmati rice, that is. I presume you are looking for a cost effective meal, at which point I suggest Jackon Heights for your next Indian food adventure. Again, appreciate the feedback!
Best,

Fabulous...maybe the best onion kulcha and cauliflower naan outside India! Rich sauces with amazing depth and taste. One of everything next time you go.

Awadh is a calm, dimly-lit Indian restaurant in a convenient location. The fod they serve there is great, and you can tell that it is very authentic. The hostess and waiters are very nice, but the best thing about Awadh is how fast the food comes. Usually someone starts complaining about how slow the food is immediately, but here there is no chance of that.
