Excited to bring our daughter to see the statue, as we've been reading the Balto books for years (fun fact, if you're ever in Cleveland the real Balto was stuffed and is on display at the museum of natural history!). Easy access, the statue on the outskirts of the park, and shouldn't take more than a few minutes from 5th Ave side, or 10 minutes from W 59th side.

Include this on your trip of Central Park, but don't go just for the statue (which will take you about 2 minutes to look at/photograph).

Short walk through the park to get to the Balto Statue. Definitely worth the walk to see this, especially if you've seen the movie.

The Balto stature has a line near it of people waiting to take their pictures with it. It is a cute statue dedicated to sled dogs in 1925 that delivered medicine in Nome Alaska. And it is a cultural attraction, based on all the people that want a special picture of it.

We were on our way to a concert when we passed this statue. It is fun, beautiful and a great photo op.

If you have you do kids have them watch the movie first. It is a good cartoon that explains Baltos importance.

While on a guided bicycle/cart tour of Central Park, our guide pointed out this statue from a distance and told us it was a tribute to the wonderful sled dogs in Alaska that braved the terrible weather, ice, and snow to bring the antitoxin medicine to the children stricken with diphtheria during the epidemic of 1925 because there was a shortage in Nome. We took the time to walk back to the park just to find this statue and get an up close look and picture of this beautiful work of art.
