Let me first say that when I visit NYC with the family, we usually stay in the Elysee, Giraffe, or Casablanca.

This time I went to the city on my own as I wanted to see some museums, libraries, and sports stuff that would bore my family. As i wanted to stay in the Village, I decided to give WSH a shot.

It's a great location, right on the park, and a block from the subway. The staff was nice. The room was clean and very very very small. Just right for one person, but iffy for any more. The small window had a nice view of a brick wall. There is a continental breakfast included, but it is very sparse and not of any great quality. However, if you have some coffee, oj, and a bagel, you probably have had a $20 breakfast by NYC standards. :)

If your plans are to be out of the room for a 15 hour day of sight seeing and walking around, this is a good place, largely due to the price and location. It is a not a good place if you plan to spend time in your room. It's just a place to crash at night.

Last visit here was in July 2010. This time we arrived in NYC on 4/29 at 9:00 AM. Dropped our luggage off at the hotel for storage and were invited to go to the hotel's restraurant and have some of the free continental breakfast which was great since I ate breakfast at about 3:30 AM and was hungry. We were promptly served large bowls of fruit, juice and coffee and then bagels and muffins. Had to run to NJ for the day and arrived back at the hotel at about 10 PM. We went to our room which was an executive king on the second floor in the front of the hotel right next to the elevator. I thought the elevator might have been noisy, but I never heard it. The streets did get noisy around 2 AM when the garbage guys came through, but we remedied that by keeping the air conditioner fans on at night, so I wouldn't have a problem staying on a lower floor in the future. The room was huge and the bathroom was equally as large....excellent shower! Very clean also and I am a clean freak. As usual, the doorman was exceptionally friendly. He always remembered us as we came in/out during our stay. The hotel's central location makes it great for getting around...a block away from 6th Avenue and the subway. Felt very safe walking anywhere in the area. Washington Square Park is a great place to hang out to watch people or the dogs in the dog park. I will only stay here when I come to NYC!!

From 24 to 29th of April my mother and I stayed at the Washington Square Hotel to discover NY. What a great cosy hotel in the friendly Village. Coffee and Tea in the room, healthy breakfast and very friendly staff. I'm going to recommend it to my friends!

We spent 4 nights at this hotel in April and this was our second visit.
The location is great - so much going on - busy night life, good eating places, young studenty atmosphere (being close to the University) and a great place to do a Dylan pilgrimage - he lived in this hotel back in the day, played in local clubs etc. It is quick and easy to travel by bus downtown to the WTC memorial, Battery Park etc or uptown. There is no longer a 1 or 3 day metrocard but you can buy one for a week's unlimited travel $29.
The hotel staff are pleasant and helpful. De-luxe rooms have a 'view' but superior ones have only a partial or internal view. The furnishings are stylish, the beds comfortable, a coffee machine is provided. The corridors are warren-like and you can get noise from the neighbours and the traffic
Breakfast is good - really fresh orange juice and good coffee, a selection of fresh fruit salad, cereals, breads and pastries etc. You could eat in the public restaurant or in a buffet room. We liked the public area breakfasting with the New Yorkers. Service was alway speedy, friendly and efficient. On Sunday they have a Jazz Brunch with live music. Book in advance if you want this.

If you are there to shop Century 21 down near Ground Zero sells designer labels cheaply in a mad jumble sale setting. If you go to Macys or Bloomingdales dont forget to get your
visitor's 10% discount card from customer services, before you shop. We went to a great flea market in Chelsea on Saturday. If you want the outlet stores you need to go to Woodbury Common which is some distance from the City and will probably take up a whole day. The neighbourhood jeans shops sell Levis etc at a very competitive price.

We ate several times at the Waverly restaurant nearby - open 24 hours, reasonable prices, extensive menu. There are some excellent places to eat in the Village - Johns for pizza,
Burrito Loco, Mexican etc Many bars have happy hours.

The exchange rate means that New York seems on par with London for day to day spending.
Its fairly compact + easy to travel round - you'll probably do a lot of walking. Brooklyn bridge gives you a spectacular view of Manhatten, as does Top of the Rock. Anyway, you'll have your own list of must-sees!
We thoroughly recommend the hotel to you from the cool guy on the door to the warm and helpful service throughout the hotel.. Probably best to book it independently to be sure you get what you want.

Room Tip: High rooms for peace and quiet and good views

We stayed at this hotel for six nights in April over Easter 2012. We booked the hotel online and were glad they had an open cancellation as well as breakfast included in the price. 275$ a night was pricey but as we have no other hotel in NY to compare it with we booked it. We had been in Philadelphia the same time period a year before and had a room that was 3 times as large as well as a view for 100 dollars less and it was downtown. Needless to say we were nervous when arriving as we didnt know what to expect. Our room was small! We had trouble finding room for our 3 large suitcases in the room. The closet was even smaller so we couldnt put that many clothes in the closet which is frustrating when staying six nights. Our room was a constant mess as we had no where to put things. Our beds were very comfortable and we were thanful for a window with fresh air. It is NY so of course it was noisy at night, we solved this by getting some ear plugs from the drug store around the corner. The room was dark in that it was painted an orange color so it needed more light I would say. We had a desk, bedside tables, and a tv on the wall. There was only enough space to walk to the other side of the bed between the bed and the wall so it was a small room. We loved our neighborhood. The park, restaurants, closeness of subway, drugstore, shopping and the quietness compared to other areas. The breakfast of bagels and toast and croissants, fresh fruit, yogurt, cheese and cold cereal was perfect for us. The staff were amazing. Our room was cleaned and made up each day despite the mess they would have to deal with in our room. We received restaurant recommendations and a warm greeting and farewell everytime we came to the lobby. We were provided a late check out on our last day as well and we were able to reorganize our luggage and what not in a spare room after a long day of more shopping before flying home. I would say though for the size of the room, the room rate is too high, but the staff do there best to make up for this in service. I would recommend this hotel.

We liked this place - we had a quiet room (307) and weren't bothered by our neighbors, and we appreciated the breakfast being included in the room price and enjoyed the fruit, pastries, yogurt, and cereal being offered sometimes in the quirky little bar and sometimes just off the lobby (and until 11 a.m., another plus!). We also had coffee in the room. The decor wasn't cookie-cutter, with real old wood, photos of old-time movie stars, and many pleasing custom touches. The price was quite competitive, and the location was perfect for us - just across from Washington Square in the West Village, in a good walkable area near plenty of places to eat (Babbo is right across the street). Very helpful service, very clean, and of course, the room is small - this is New York, folks.

Room Tip: We had a window (actually two, one in the room, and another in the bathroom, which was at right angl...

I've been to NYC a couple times but this was my first stay in Greenwich Village. I had a wonderful time. Everyone on the staff here was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and pleasant. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Top floor room (9th floor) was quiet enough.
