1st- I never really trust reviews all the time. I am not an employee or friend or have any connection to this hotel.

This hotel is not the largest or the fanciest in NYC. But it is an older hotel that is clean, under some updating when we stayed with Super Nice STAFF. The room for NY was spacious with a flat screen TV and a place for coffee and tea in the am. This was a very good location to be in from a sightseeing perspective.

We went for a Broadway show opening. I had the Concierge get us a car so we would be sure to make dinner on time. Accidently, I left tickets for myself and 100 others in the car when we got to the restaurant. With Larry's help, the driver brought them back pretty quickly and all went well. It could have been a disaster! Thanks to Larry for arranging the car and then saving me from my own dumb mistake....

Room Tip: There is some construction of a new building on the Broadway side of the hotel which may be loud in...

Nice clean hotel... both the halls and our room. Our suite for 6 was nice, it wasn't huge, but it was roomy. They are doing construction in the lobby right now, but they should be finished soon. The staff was excellent! Very friendly and helpful. They gladly stored our bags both the day of check-in because we arrived in the city at about 10am... and the day we checked-out until about 8pm when we were ready to leave the city.

Room Tip: Things to consider... the suite for six only had one bathroom.

Cons: Noisy (street noise) made comfortable sleep very difficult, the hotel lobby is going through renovation and it's messy, the hotel is old and though the furniture has been updated basic structural things have not (e.g. wall air conditioning units, closets that cannot fit any shirts).

Pros: Nice location, price is reasonable (for NYC standards).

Bottom line: The hotel definitely tries to do a good job, but because they are right on Broadway and their architecture doesn't support how people live today, there are other, nicer places at similar rates.

Our stay at the HOTEL BELLECLAIRE was in a word, "outstanding". From valet to doorman to the rest of the entire staff, we were blown away, they all go above and beyond to make sure your stay is how you need it to be. We like to stay outside of times square and the BELLECLAIRE was absolutly the right choice. Already booked for our next stay in NYC.

thanks BELLECLAIRE!!

ps- the renovations look great!

Room Tip: the round corner rooms are so cool and have amazing views!

This was our first time staying at this hotel and although the lobby area was under renovation, we still had a wonderful stay. The staff, from the gentleman at the front door and the reservation staff to the maintenance staff and the housekeeper, was very polite and worked very efficiently. The room is significantly smaller than what the pictures on the site depict. Although the room wasn't as big as we had expected, it was still roomy enough. We stayed in a double/double room (two double beds for 2 adults and two children). The lounge area on the first floor was very convenient. It was a converted suite that had two computers, internet access, a printer, hot drinks, free newspapers, water, and snacks. A bathroom and TV were also located in the lounge. This was a great place to meet up with traveling companions. A small downfall was the tight space in the two elevators located in the hotel. It generally wasn't too big an issue, until our last day when one elevator broke down and we had to resort to climbing nine flights to our room. The hotel is only two blocks from a subway station, a five minute walk to central park, and steps away from many nice restaurants and shops. We would definitely consider staying here again on our next trip to NYC.

Room Tip: book early

We stayed here recently while dropping off our daughter for her summer internship at the American Museum of Natural History. It's a charming (though compact) place, very tastefully decorated. The lobby was undergoing renovations but the staff was very accomodating. We found it nice to have such civilized accomodations so conveniently located. We had a great nights sleep--nice linens, great mattress and pillows. The location is terrific. We will definately be back!

Room Tip: We stayed in the family suite and enjoyed it very much.

I agree with a previous review that stated the staff was either untrained or indifferent. That said, I would still recommend the hotel. The rooms are fine- they are clean and quiet with lovely hardwoods. The shower was nice and hot even though I was on a high floor (which is not common for these older hotels). The rooms are not big, but this is New York. The location is fantastic. You are within easy walking distance from the Natural History Museum, Central Park, and the 1 train. If you stay at this hotel, you will not need a cab at any point except to get to/from the airport. All you need is a metro card. Also, do not miss the Westside Market. I loved having fresh food and grocery items nearby and inexpensive. That was a huge convenience that the location provided.
