The Blakely probably isn't for everybody but it was great for us! Our son was singing at Carnegie Hall and we sought a nearby location through Luxury Link. (By the way, we got a good price, bottle of wine and were upgraded to a suite through this website) My husband who goes NYC often in the advertizing business said it is the nicest and biggest room he's stayed in in New York. The kitchenette was a plus. The bathroom, lounge bed for our college age daughter, the comfort of the beds, staff, wi-fi was all exceptional. The concierges directed us faultlessly to Italian, Chinese, and American grill restaurants that we couldn't find in guide books that were delicious, reasonable and perfect! Location, location Location is right! The little lobby, no skyline and slow, small elevators all should be noted for people who are seeking these things in the Big apple. We met many loyalists who consider this part of the
Blakely experience and we hope to join them as repeat customers in future visits.

Room Tip: They started us on the 13th floor which smelled like smoke. We asked for a change and were pleased.

Me and my boyfriend just come back from New York and i don't think we could have stayed in a better hotel, we originally booked the Wellington and when we got there we got upgraded to the blakely (their sister hotel) as it was Luke's 21st birthday. The staff were very friendly and did everything they could to help, it is a 5 minute walk to times square and central park ... We would defiantly book this hotel again. Great hotel great staff.

...mainly because the staff was pleasant, but that's not an option in Tripadvisor. I thought of giving four stars, but my responsibility is to the reader, not the hotel, and if other readers are like me, they go to the poorer reviews to find out what people *didn't* like.

Pros:
-We found on arrival that we had been upgraded to a suite, which was quite spacious and had a well-stocked kitchenette. The view was not great but I rarely hold that against a hotel, especially in Manhattan.
-The staff was for the most part quite friendly.
-Unlike in many rooms we've been in, the HVAC noise was noticeable but not obtrusive.
-The location is terrific for Central Park, the theater district and Times Square. It's also a walk to/from Grand Central, and a short cab ride to uptown museums.
-Plenty of closet and drawer space (again, this was a suite; your experience may be different).
-I booked months prior to our trip and received what turned out to be a very favorable rate, compared to the rate just before arriving, hence the 4/5 value rating below; had I paid the higher rate, I would have selected 3/5 for value.

Cons:
-Unlike most quality hotels we've been to, where there is a separate blanket or duvet (often covered with a sheet), this bed had only a bedspread. If you've watched or read any reports on what can be found on a hotel bedspread, you know how gross it is. We asked for and received a blanket and additional sheet and made our own duvet.
-The bathroom lighting was poor. Above the sink was a single hi-hat. Also, while the pedestal sink was nice to look at, there were no shelves or cubbies to store toiletries or toiletry bags.
-The bath towels are probably the smallest I've seen in a quality hotel, more like something you'd find in a motel.
One of the bedside lamps didn't work. I mentioned it to someone at the front desk on my way out one morning, but when we returned later in the day it still didn't work. (The room had been cleaned.) So I took a bulb from a lamp in the sitting area and voila!
-The continental breakfast was mediocre. The bagels did not look like "real" bagels -- which should be a crime in NY -- and some of the English muffins were stale. Also, we had to run the muffins and toast through the revolving toaster three times to get them toasted. The second morning we went up the block to the Park Diner (55th and Seventh)
-The bill was not under the door in the morning and I had to stop by the desk to get it. This only took a few moments but could cost a busy traveler some time.
-One of the two elevators was not in service, which resulted in long waiting times. That kind of thing can happen, but during one of our many trips down the stairs (from the ninth floor) someone behind us, apparently a return guest, remarked that it had happend before. (Yet she obviously enjoyed her stay enough to return.)

Overall, it ended up being an OK stay, mainly due to the size of the room and the adjustments we made (e.g., blanket, light bulb, going somewhere else for breakfast). None of the cons were that serious, but cumulatively they led to the three-star rating.

May family and I recently visited NYC and stayed at the Blakely. We had two rooms to accomodate us and I must say that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms are clean,
the bathrooms are quality and the service is excellent. The concierges are always there to
help you and advise you. The included continental breakfast is practical, however, the selection could be more varied. Perhaps a cheese selection or hard boiled eggs option could be added
to amp up the breakfast a little. The location could not be better. If given a choice, the rooms
not facing 55th street would be preferable, as the traffic noises can be quite loud.
All in all an excellent choice. Will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Rooms not facing 55th street are quieter.

Based on a recent three-night stay, I give the Blakely an Excellent rating. It is a small, quiet, well-appointed hotel with first rate staff. The location is an easy walk to Times Square and the theaters (but away from the crowds) and a shorter stroll to Central Park, which provides walking access to the great museums. Critically, it is very near our favorite breakfast spot, the inimitable Brooklyn Diner on 57th. The staff were very friendly and cooperative. Our first room overlooked a noisy construction site but we were promptly moved to the other side of the hotel upon request. The rooms are spacious by NY standards and well furnished. The Blakely will be our first choice on future visits.
