I have very few complaints about this Hotel. For the price we paid we got an excellent location, the room was cleaned every day and fresh towels and bedding were provided.

I requested a good view and I wasn't disappointed, we were given a corner room and had views of the Empire State Building on one side of us and a breathtaking view down Madison Avenue on the other.

There was a well stocked mini bar which we dipped into on a couple of occasions.. a Gray Goose vodka was $8 and a can of Coke was $4.. sounds a little pricey but to be honest I was expecting them to be more expensive, so we weren't too shocked when we got the bill.

The room, if a little on the dated side, was very comfortable.. the bed was quite big and very comfy and the bedding was nice and warm, we slept great all week. We were provided with an iron and ironing board and a hair dryer and there was no shortage of complimentary toiletries.

The residents bar is a little on the pricey side, $11 for a (quite small) glass of wine, in my books is a little dear, you would expect to pay that up on Times Square. If you're looking for a nightcap and don't fancy venturing very far, Blaggards Irish Bar is just 5 minutes walk up on 38th and Fifth.. We found this a very good little pub.

The staff were always helpful and friendly.

Like many others who have reviewed this Hotel, we didn't not eat breakfast here, we went across the road to the Moonstruck Diner most days and ate here.. very reasonable and good food.

I will be recommending this Hotel to Friends and Family and should I go back to New York I will definitely stay here again.

went with my daughter had a really good time got the 48 hour hop on hop off tickets for the bus tour a must for new York very informative guides we even had a lady who sang songs on the way round!
when you book into this hotel they ask for your credit card and take out $100 straight away failing that you have to give them a deposit in case you have any extras, we didn't as out in room mini bar was locked!!
the radiator was hot all night this was a bit disturbing as the radiator was unplugged!
every thing else was grand we had breakfast at a restaurant across the road called moonstruck it was very reasonable and rather large portions!
my advice to any one going to new York who wants to see the sights pre book on-line before you go especially for the empire state building saves nearly two hour wait in queues

This hotel is located on 38th and 4th. The location is ideal for city centre attractions yet far enough out of the action to be quiet for a good nights sleep. The lobby is tastefully decorated and you'll be welcomed by the friendly team at the Jolly Hotel. There is concierge & bell services available as well as free use of safety deposit boxes, which you can secure upon check in. There is also left luggage available free of charge, although a tip will be expected when you collect - which is fair enough, we left $5.

Rooms are tastefully decorated, with TV, mini bar, desk, telephone & radio alarm clock. There is also iron and ironing board in the wardrobe and plenty hangers in there too. The bathroom was large (in NY terms) bath, with shower over, shower screen, loo and large basin with mirror and hairdryer. Also a sash window which was lovely to open after a hot shower. Jergen toiletries are available for your use and restocked daily. Rooms cleaned daily and towels also changed daily. Beds are very comfortable as are the pillows - I like a nice comfy bed and wasn't disappointed, slept like a baby the entire trip!

We used the concierge to book a couple of trips and they also gave us some hints of where to eat in the vicinity of the hotel. The hotel has "jolly hour" 5 - 7 every night with half price drinks -although we never actually managed to make it back from our trips to take advantage.

If you chose to stay here, there is a little diner called Moonstruck on the corner of 38th & 4th, its gorgeous and serves delicious food and drinks.

This is a reasonably priced hotel in a good location, if I return to NY I will definitely stay here again.

The location is very good, which helps as it really is all this hotel has going for it.

There is absolutely nothing jolly about this place and this is best captured by the front desk staff who seemed unable to even force a smile.

The room was cleaned well each day, which was appreciated but it was dated and the bed was really uncomfortable. We were really only using the room to sleep in as we were out and about for most of our 4 days in NYC but the least you would expect from a supposed 4* place is a bed that doesn't seem to have been used as a tramploline over its very long life.

There was no safe in the room and the ones available to use in the lobby would not fit any valuable larger than a passport. Internet was available in the lobby but at $4 for 15 minutes they must be joking. They weren't- As I said, this place is far from jolly!

Anyway, it was a cheap option in good location so served its purpose on this trip but would never stay here again.

We stayed on the Jolly Madison (now NH) from the 19 to 22 March. The location is superb, you can walk to Grand Central Station, Times Square, Fifth Av., Empire State, even to Central Park. You can't beat that.

The personnel on the reception was not friendly and not eager to help. We had made reservations thru NH World and we had some trouble with it (it was prepaid) and they didn't even bother to call them, because it was a long distance call. In the mean time we called NH and after they received a call from the corporate office, everything was solved.

The breakfast buffet is good, european style, bread, cheese and ham. Good quality food. Of course, you don't expect a lot of fresh food, but is very good. The seating for parties of 3 or more is difficult because the room is small and they only have 3 big tables. Very good before going to walk the city.

The rooms are small and old. My room was clean, very small space for the luggage, and the bathroom was clean. I know that NY hotels are this way, but as I am used to bigger rooms, it felt odd, but hey.. you are here to know the city, so I wasn't very worried about this.

In general, this hotel has great location, you can rest and have breakfast and get to know the city at your own pace. We took the shuttle from the airport to Grand Central and we walked the 2 blocks and saved on the taxi.
