Given the very positive comments from the majority of the reviewers, I expected a little bit more. Sure, the hotel is OK, but nothing more than that. The main concern that I have is about the noise (a lot of it!) coming from the street - the windows let all the noise in (and my room was on the 11th floor!) which made the night quite uncomfortable.
Other cons:
- the complimentary breakfast was slightly disappointing - limited choice of food in an over-crowded room, and you would have to clean your table after the previous guests if you'd like to sit without waiting for an unreasonable time.
- the wifi went on and off all the time, which is annoying if you are trying to work.
The pros:
- great location, friendly and polite staff, very nice restaurant in the lobby, great view of the Empire State Building while drinking a beer on the roof terrace.
My 2 cents: the lack of attention for details makes this hotel just OK, definitely not great. If you find a discounted rate, go for it, otherwise look somewhere else.

Relly nice hotel, very comfortable and very clean room. Excellent location, right in the centre of Manhattan. Would recommend to anyone travelling to NYC.

Room Tip: Breakfast can get very busy from about half 7 so time it well.

We stayed from April 5 to April 9, 2012. The reception staff were very helpful, the room comfortable, clean and newly decorated. Room safe, fridge and umbrella all very welcome at no charge. The breakfast was buffet style and offered fruit, cereals, bagels, cheese, yogurt, toast, jams/marmalade, juices, tea(varieties of), coffee (varieties of) and as much of all these as one wanted. Teas/coffee/water were available free of charge 24 hours. the roof garden/bar has a great view of the Empire State building. The hotel is 2 min.s from Macy's, and approx. ten minutes walking distance from Times Square, Empire State, Top of the Rock and St Patrick's Catherdral. The area is safe at night and was quiet for a city centre location. There are numerous good restaurants and bars in the immediate area. Taxis are seconds away and the staff were great with suggestions and advice and in no way pushy about tips. We loved the place.

Room Tip: top floor near roof garden but all seemed v.good

Booked this hotel along with flight through British Airways. Location could not have been better as right next to 5th Avenue and a short walk to Broadway and Times Square. Having breakfast included is a great start to the day. Can recommend Rockafeller Centre as views are fantastic. Back to hotel it is very clean it may be a little noisy at night but this did not spoil our stay. Staff were extremely helpful and I would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Higher floors are probably better

If your after an authentic retro new York experience instead of a soulless cookie cutter hotel this is the place. All fifties pictures, a Sinatra appeal and fabulous empire state building views. We were upgraded to the suite, which was a welcome treat and a very comfortable experience. The breakfast was delicious and it was good to have a hearty breakfast before a day exploring the sights. Central location and great value for money. Will definitely return!!

With its original but refurbished art deco interior, this is a pleasant surprise amongst the hubub of New York. It is worth paying a few dollars more for an upgraded room as some can be rather small with souless views. Beautifully clean, the beds were extremely comfortable with high quality cotton duvet covers and sheets. Centrally located to shops and attractions, a close
-up view of the Empire State can be enjoyed from the room terrace where drinks and cocktails are served from 5pm. Also a haven for smokers!
Very pleasant staff who took a pride in their hotel and job and a credit to New Yorkers. Good old fashioned manners gave this hotel a five star feel!

Room Tip: Ask for a twin queen room or one on the PH floor (only another $40 a night more)
