Enjoyed our stay

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 27, 2017
Passing through on a road trip. We enjoyed our stay. Thought the location was great and the room was clean and comfortable. We thought the extra resort fee was a little much as we didn't use the spa which we would have to pay extra for the services or the pool or sauna. Definitely would stay again.

First of all, this place is a far cry from a 3.5 star hotel with a 'resort' in its title. With its old, two-story Motel-6 like buildings, ugly landscaping, across the parking lot restaurants and tiny pool, the overall feeling is closer to a roadside motel than what you probably had in mind when you were booking that room with at a high(ish) nightly rate.
On to the room; it was a lot different than those pretty pictures online. It was old, ugly, poorly maintained. Ours had that distinct smell of being smoked in despite the hotel advertising itself as smoke-free. It was probably not just because the previous occupants smoked, but the smell infused to everything in the room after years of being smoked in. Opening the windows did not help, the horrible smell was there every time we walked into the room. This must be impossible to miss by housekeeping or management, yet it seems the hotel chooses to ignore it. The decor is quite outdated, there are virtually no easily accessible power outlets and the faucet was so jammed that my daughters could not turn it on. The windows were so jammed that us as adults could only open with extreme difficulty.
Finally, this not-so-resort-like place comes with a $28.5 resort fee. I have no problems with resort fees as long as they are truthfully disclosed. The issue here is I booked through Hotwire and the hotel has found out a loophole in Hotwire policy that essentially allows a hotel to not disclose its resort fees even though you are still on the hook for it. Honest hotels make that disclosure so that you are well aware of the real nightly cost when making that reservation. Sierra Nevada is smart enough (or deceiving enough depending on which side you are looking from) not to disclose it so that you are fooled into thinking you are getting a decent rate, whereas your real nightly rate is significantly higher.

Stayed at the Resort the second week of August. The staff, especially Kim were very accommodating during our stay. We rented a 2 bedroom chalet which overlooked the green. The chalet was clean and comfortable. The pool and Jacuzzi were also very nice. The Jacuzzi was spacious as well. This was my third time staying at the Sierra Nevada Resort. I would definitely recommend it. Rafters also has a very nice outside cafe which we also took advantage of.

We stayed here for two nights in August 2017. We had a room with two queen beds. Comfortable beds. No fridge in room. Decor a little tired. The pool was in the shade and therefore a bit cold so the jacuzzi was been used by children to play in. Very busy so opted to go to the spa with a very nice sauna and steam room. Car park was in a bit of a mess and needs repairing. Window in our room wouldn't open and maintenance guy came and said it was broken. He managed to open it for us but it meant we couldn't shut it properly. But generally a good location to visit devils postpile and rainbow falls.

Yesterday afternoon, our toilet clogged. We called the front desk immediately and was told that "this happens all the time" and that someone would come fix it, but that they are very busy. Well, a day later, we still have a clogged toilet and you can imagine how pleasant that is. I'm thinking of finding a hardware store and making the repairs myself and invoicing the hotel, but do you really think they'd pay?
Also....no one has serviced our room. We can live with unmade beds, but isn't service what we pay for?
There is no fridge, no microwave, no safe, regardless of what was advertised.
We're here for three days. Upon our arrival at 5 pm, we were told that our room wasn't ready and shooed over to the bar. The front desk didn't offer us a drink, but the awesome bartender bought our first round. When we were finally issued keys, he only keyed us on for one day.... We're here for 3! So we got locked out. Fortunately, many of the rooms lack screens and were standing open, so Hubby was able to climb through a window.
This place sucks.

Relaxing time warp. The Lodge portion of Sierra Nevada Resort is on the back side. Rooms are spacious and well apportioned, with ensuite bathroom in a separate area away from the sleeping area. Each room, and much of the public areas, have vintage craftsman lodge furniture that likely has been collected through the years.

We found unusually refreshing the front desk personnel. Although understaffed (only 1 person to answer the phone and help walk-ups), the people went out of their way to accommodate. Front desk graciously held bags after checkout while we skiied, even with numerous requests to add or remove something. When we returned to claim our bags 4 hours after we officially checked out, the desk attendant graciously offered us to shower and change clothes in the Spa -- we were just planning on pulling off our skiwear and donning street clothes -- but what an unpected TREAT to get to shower and groom before our 5 hour car trek home.

overall, comfortable location 4 blocks from The Ski Renter (open til 10 on Fridays) and a Rite Aid and 4 blocks from Vons and on Stop 10 along the Red Route
