We stop at the visitor’s center to get our free tickets to Independence Hall. While we were there the park ranger suggested the kids program for my children. It is called the Jr. Park Ranger program. My kids received workbooks (which is a huge plus for homeschool!) that had to be completed in order to be “swore in” as a junior park ranger.
My kids (7&8) absolutely loved during the activities in the workbook and it kept them interested while visiting different exhibits.

What really made my day is the park rangers have trading cards that the kids can earn. They have to answer fairly easy questions and then earn that trading card. Kudos to EVERY park ranger my kids approached. They are super friendly and very knowledgeable about presidents, historic sites, and important documents.

The visitors center offers plenty of photo ops. Like the rocky statue, the Phillies Phanatic, and xoxo statue.

We enjoyed the gift shop but the heat seemed to be cranked up. We were getting way too hot in there and didn’t spend much time other than grabbing some postcards.

We walked to the visitors center from our hotel but I did notice there is a parking garage attached to the building.

We did some of the exhibits inside the visitors center before heading over to Independence Hall.

If you are coming for the historical sites & buildings (and didn't do your homework, like me) this is the best place to start. The park service people were very helpful and informative. You get your free tix here for Independence Hall tour as well. Nice gift shop, too.

Get your FREE tickets to see Independence Hall from the National Park rangers here.

Note that there are numerous kiosks in the building which sell tickets to other attractions. Don't get suckered in if your intent is only to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.
