We were welcomed (we arrived early) with a smile. Janet offered everything from restaurant ideas to getting around the city with ease! We loved the location --- close to universities and we were able to walk to the downtown.
Our room - the Billie Holiday room was large and the king sized bed comfortable.
We were offered many breakfast options and when a quiche ran out Janet made us eggs! Wow above and beyond anything expected....
Upon departure we were even offered a gift which will remind us of Spruce Hill and the time we enjoyed there.

We were sorry we were not staying longer. The location of Spruce Hill Manor is convenient to University City and accessible to downtown Philly. Janet has created a lovely place of refuge. We had to get up very early and Janet was there to help us load... at 5:15 am!!! Everything is beautifully decorated and added to Janet's warmth this is a great place!!!

Spruce Hill Manor is a charming Victorian mansion on the edge of downtown and not far from the train station. It is 2 blocks to the trolley stop and then only a few minutes to the center of the city. The rooms are large and each has a refrigerator and microwave as well as some dishes and utensils. The furnishings are lovely and the neighborhood quiet. There are many good restaurants nearby that the staff can recommend. The best part is the staff. The breakfast they prepared each day was wonderful and they were extremely helpful. It was our first trip to Philadelphia and we had many questions about what to see and how to get there, all of which the staff patiently answered. When our cab failed to arrive to take us to the train the owner went beyond the call of duty and drove us there herself. We loved it and look forward to a return visit.

We stayed at Spruce Hill Manor on New Years Eve and had a wonderful stay. Janet gave us 5 star hospitality. She made us feel like we were her children coming home for the holidays and gave us a warm welcome. She truly has an eye for details. This was evident from the beautiful decorations to the gorgeously wrapped welcome gifts to the breakfast selection.

We stayed in the queen room. The antique furniture was wonderful. The headboard was a hand carved, elaborate wooden piece that I wish I could have taken home with me. The rest of the room was absolutely quaint and lovely.

The next morning we woke up to the aroma of freshly baked quiche which was absolutely yummy. She makes an effort to buy only organic foods but still accommodates the cornflake and fruit loop lovers. The (organic) cinammon swirl bread was delicious. There was also fresh fruit and yoghurt. I was especially excited to see my favorite type of tea there (chocolate mint). She pays attention to details.

After breakfast she gave us all very cute parting gifts. We stayed up late on New Years Eve and we were exhausted the next day. Janet very graciously allowed us to do have a late check out.

The inn is located in a quiet, tree lined residential neighborhood that is not far away from all the action. This is perfect if you are looking for a peaceful getaway. If you prefer having obnoxious drunks and noisy clubs outside your window then this is not the place for you.

I had a great stay and look forward to going back again.

We were there for the marathon and Janet woke up at 5h30 AM to prepare the breakfast for us before the race. After the race she let us use the shower even though we were late the check out time. She is exceptionally kind and I don't know any hotel with that kind of attention. The neighborhood is quiet and very nice. I will not go anywhere else for future stay in Philadelphia!

I stayed at the Spruce Hill Manor for two nights in November.
The place is very nice and comfortable and the room is large, with your own private bathroom.
The breakfast is healthy and tasty; on Saturday morning, the owner Janet had prepared a delicious quiche lorraine.
When I left the place I inadvertently forgot some clothes behind as the maid placed them in the closet without me noticing. Janet called me before I left Philadelphia and was nice enough to bring the clothes to me at the bus station! This is not the kind of personalized service you would get in a chain hotel!

All in all a very good choice. If you come to town for a conference, the Spruce Hill Manor is easily to reach from the Convention Center with the trolley that stop next door!

A charming old Victorian mansion with a friendly, helpful and efficient inkeeper. The spacious room with a large hall and private bathroom. The breakfast was held in a peaceful environment. The neighborhood is super charming and quiet with beautiful houses . The weather was amazing! the tree-lined streets glowed in shades of red, yellow and brown. Wonderful! I recommend without restrictions.
