“Second stay, still quite good”
Reviewed 1 March 2012

Despite requesting an early check in, on arrival we had to wait for the room (beyond the normal check-in time). I had called ahead the day of our arrival to double check if earlier access to the room would be okay and was reassured. Okay, not the end of the world. Well, in fact I was given two vouchers for a complimentary breakfast on account of the wait, Quite a nice gesture really.

Getting into to the room, I did notice that it was not as clean as the usual high-standards of the Kimpton chain. Particularly the bathroom. This may have been directly tied-in to the fact they hurried to cleaned our room, who knows.

Staff were great, the B&O is a wonderful spot to have attached to the hotel and it remains the best in show for anyone traveling with a dog. Will be back at some point no doubt.

We always try to stay in Kimpton Hotels when we travel because they are always trying to do something a little different from other hotels and from other Kimpton Hotels. The Monaco Baltimore is located in a beautifully restored building that was the headquarters of the B&O Railroad. As such there is a subtle railroad theme going on. Our room was well decorated in a navy blue and gold color scheme which was very pleasing and it had very high ceilings with decent views over the city. The wine hour, which seems to be standard in all Kimpton Hotels was held in a beautiful "living room" just off the lobby. The service was friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that a dirty room service tray sat on the floor in our hall for several hours before it was picked up. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are in Baltimore.

Spent a week at the Monaco Hotel for a convention trade show with my family. Everything about this place was perfect for us...from the outstanding service of the hotel staff, front doormen who got to know us well, great restaurant recommendations. Free wine hour at 5pm, a goldfish for the room, microwave, refrigerator, free Wi-Fi for Kimpton members and an excellent selection of newspapers. The room was a chique boutique room, king sized bed that was comfortable to sleep in all week.
No complaints here, definately would stay here again!

Room Tip: higher floors for less outdoor noise.

Monaco Hotel is nice, the rooms are not very large, but functional. The location is in a historical building. Access to the harbour in 10 min. The breakfast service can be improved.

Room Tip: Higher floors quieter rooms

Beautiful History in the remodled B & O Railroad Headquarters Building. Just a short walk to the Inner Harbor. Very Nice Rooms. Because our room was not ready at checkin we were given coupons for the bar and full breakfast in the restaurant the next morning. Breakfast was very good. Would definately return to the Hotel Monaco and will look forward to visiting other Kimpton Properties in the future.

My husband and I spent one Friday night at the Hotel Monaco. We just wanted to get away from the house, and my sister recommended this hotel. I'm so glad she did, because I can't say enough good things about it.
First, it is stunningly beautiful. The hotel is in the old B&O Railroad headquarters, so the architectural details are just wonderful. The lobby is on the second floor, so you can take the elevator or climb up one of two gorgeous marble staircases.
The room (King Premiere) was a decent size, but it had very high ceilings, which made it look bigger.
In the evenings, there is a "wine reception" in the living room. The living room is so pretty. Lots of sofas, chairs and tables scattered around, alone and grouped. A cool fireplace. And free wine. Really, who can complain?
But the best part of the whole trip was the staff. Although the Monaco LOOKS like a snooty hotel, it's really not. Every single person we encountered, from front desk to room service to valet, was incredibly helpful and friendly. We had high-class comfort and service, but we still felt very much at home. What could be better?

My husband and I have stayed at several other Kimpton properties and had amazing experiences. We decided to visit the Inner Harbor to celebrate Valentines Day and chose the Hotel Monaco based on our previous Kimpton stays. The building itself is beautiful, inside and out. I don't believe there are really any "great" views, as the area is surrounded by other tall buildings. The neighborhood leaves a little to be desired. Our room was immaculate and beautifully decorated. However, the AC was incredibly loud. We had to turn the TV up and down when it turned on and off. What set this property apart from others we have visited is the lack of attention to detail and service. If you want room service, be prepared to be underwhelmed. Breakfast is not available until 8am on the weekends (the room service menu states 7am, but we were informed by the in-room dining operator that this was incorrect and that we should have read the preorder menu on the door know. Not really our responsibility to proof the signage in the hotel), nor does the restaurant open before 8am on weekends. There is not an alternative near by either, unless you want fast food. The front desk staff on Saturday morning did not seem to think this was a problem, maybe because they were too concerned with setting up the conference room for a meeting, with breakfast type items. Saturday night we were tired and decided to order room service. The menu selections are few, which is shocking considering the quality and quantity available in the hotel restaurant. When our meal arrived we were somewhat surprised. I ordered a steak, but there was no steak knife and the silverware on the tray was dirty. My husband ordered a hamburger, but no condiments were provided. Additionally, there was not water, bread or butter on the tray. We had to call for the knife and condiments and wait while the food got cold. From stays at other Kimpton properties and other hotels we know this should not be the norm. Upon checkout we were asked about our stay. We told Simon at the front desk our concerns. He was the first employee we met at the hotel that seemed to care. He listened to us and removed the room service charge, assuring us he would make sure our experiences were relayed to management. We truly wanted to love this hotel and are sad to provide such a review, but this property was not up to Kimpton standards.

Dear JTGarcia2,

Thank you for staying with us over the holiday. We do realize there some opportunities especially with Room Service and we are working on a total revamp of the department to help alleviate these issues that you brought to our attention. Our plan is to be implemented by mid-March and I hope you will return to see our improvements.
