Over many years, we have dined at some of the top places in New York, the South, California and Paris, and our experience at Charleston was the equal to the best of the best. From the welcome, to the ambience, to the outstanding menu and wines, we enjoyed every moment.

I liked Charleston so much that I ate there two nights in a row. The room is gorgeous; tables are spaced to allow quiet conversation, and the "wine" room can be booked separately for a private party for 30-40. The food is phenomenal; fresh, local ingredients prepared with care and innovation. The lobster curry soup was full of sweet, tender lobster, and the red curry cream didn't overwhelm the delicate crustacean. The chef's "a la minute" tasting menu was genius; the duck with picholine olives and a port wine sauce was as tender and savory as the finest filet mignon. The cheese cart is a must. Highly recommended!

This is our second trip to Charleston. The first time we were blown away with both the food and service. This time was something of a disappointment.

We ordered the 3 courrse option. You actually get 4 courses since dessert is always included, no matter how many other courses you choose.

First, we were extremely disappointed in the wines offered by the glass. There was only one chardonnay and it was $24 a glass. The wine list offers an extremely limited, reasonably priced, wine. We assume that they don't want you to order wine by the glass and are pushing you toward their expensive bottle prices. Even top restaurants need to offer a nice variety of wines, with a variety of price points. We didn't want a whole bottle so we opted for a cocktail, although that wasn't our first choice.

The service, as usual, was excellent. But there were several misfires on the food. The butternut squash soup, the mushroom tart, and the halibut were all good. The heirloom tomato salad, the spinach salad and the carrot cake bites were not good. The dressing on the tomatoes was unpleasant, the spinach salad was too salty and the carrot cake had no taste at all. The chocolate mousse was ok.

When you are charging these prices, everything must taste good. Charleston missed the mark this time.

Was lucky to be invited to participate in a dinner with friends and work colleagues during a conference in Baltimore. The menu included choices -- plentiful servings and outstanding taste--. Enjoyed exceptional beef and chocolate mouse Crab cakes and salad were fantastic. Definitely a place to go when visiting Baltimore if you have time for a fine dining meal.

The staff were very welcoming and hospitable. Also very knowledgeable about the menu. The food was good but not amazing like I expected it to be after a recommendation from a friend. The lobster in the lobster soup was very chewy, which was the first course and kinda set the tone. The scallop blt was very good but could’ve used salt on the tomatoes however the bacon and scallop were amazing. Not sure that we would dine again for special occasions. Nice to experience as an out of town guest. If the food was in the same league as the service we would probably return.
