Lets find out why we were Allured by a.Lure,
We were at the doors of Savannah’s famous “Olde Pink House”...
After a nice 3hrs drive from our north Orlando Home and a smooth, friendly checkin at the “Brice Kimpton”, our selected boutique hotel in historic Savannah.
This was- “supposedly”- our first OpenTable dining reservation spot, on our long time planned and cherished “Road Trip Gastrotour” on central-eastern, Coastal areas of USA, BUT there is a say in Spanish:
“...una cosa piensa el burro y otra el que lo apareja”
Which is to say; “One-thing is what the donkey think, but other thing is what his rider has in mind”...and we-certainly-acted without thinking clearly going there !
To roundup our wrongs; once in there and realizing that it was closed...we were stupid enough to ask a guy, posed in front...what was happening ?
His answer was (plain and simple) that they were closed for renovations !
Instantly we felt madly mad at our dear OpenTable system...swearing to call them and blame it, on them, for taking our reservations on that Place which was closed.
It was late in the evening and we needed to hurry up and drive to another recommended Place in our TA comments and reviews.
That selected place...allured by those infos was a.Lure !
To make the history short; as advice to others, from us, as a vivid experience...
We committed 2 big-naive mistakes:
The FIRST ONE was not to verify correctly our “AGENDA” of reserved Places. We had no-reservations that day at “Olde Pink House”, but at “Circa 1875”...which we lost in our very tight 2 days schedule at Savannah. We were more than sorry for that and hope to visit them in our next trip. Our minds were kind of obnubilated, clouded...by our long drive and rushes to get in time to our original-forgotten- destination !
The SECOND ONE was even worst; that “nice guy”, posted in front of the famous “Olde Pink House”, lied to us...simply because we din’t realize, as foreigners, that he was just a streetwise guy, with bad heart
Thankfully, everything ended better than expected...as we did enjoyed our first Gastrotour dinner at “a.Lure”. After that we enjoyed, as well, our correctly reserved dinner scheduled at that Olde Pink...
“a.Lure” was located not far from our hotel and in the very heart of the Savannah historic district...just south of “City Market” which we visited next day
Thanks to our dearest TA website, we founded that this place was great for self-proclaimed foodies, like we are, and a nice combination of low-country gourmet, fresh seafood, and a farm-to-fork concept. As we reconfirmed there; it is a new approach to traditional southern and seafood favorites, and a new category of dining for the great Downtown Savannah orchestra of fine dinning.
Once parked there, on a first glance at the building facade, I realized that this place was a trendy, modernist one...where we were more than welcome by its nice staff.
Another glance at its eclectic menu, not just on seafood specialties, but a wide range of meaty recipes was enough to warm-out our hungry stomachs
As we heard their recipes specialties my dear wife, Glorianna (our youngest daughter) and her husband...were siping some Martinis, while I began to enjoy a nice Trimbach, Pinot Gris, a pleasant white wine from France’s Alsace Region.
As appetizers we slowly had their “Chips” a la Blue cheese Fondue with Red pepper
and scallion confetti toppings...a nice offering.
Of course, no-southern dinner is correctly enjoyed without their Crabs...and we did had their “Crab Cakes”. They were made out of local crabmeat and a surprising creation in the manner of a passion fruit tartar and a mango chow chow...making us felt -almost- at our dear DR Caribbean Home.
They highly recommended to us one of their specialties; “Braised Rabbit open Raviolis”
...and they were right. It was a nice recipe from their kitchen with applewood smoked bacon, wild mushrooms, butternut squash, wilted spinach, layered pasta, rosemary and thyme cream sauce !
Our daughter had their Catch of the day. A freshly catch fish, probably from offshores Savannah’s Atlantic areas. Perfect for her
My wife had, against my “wise-advice”, their “Low-country Boil”. Nice flavors, but not for hers tastes (I knew that); made with local shrimps, crab cake, baby potatoes, smoked sausage...plus spicy collards, sweet corn flan, old bay hollandaise which are ingredients that not pleases her...but; you know better, right ?
You know the say; “When in Rome...” !
My son in law and myself applied that and greatly enjoyed their southern house specialty; “a.Lure Meatloaf”. A perfect, nice recipe made out of round filet mignon, foie gras (that we love), caramelized onions and cauliflower puree (not my favorites), but some bleu cheese, fingerling potatoes and black truffle mushroom madeira demi glaced sauce, were good enough, to fully enjoy that recipe... served in a very nice big portion.
Desserts anyone ?
Of course; we were in a Gastrotour, so....
We had; their Cheese Cake and - OF COURSE- their very southern Pecan Pie !
They were very nice, probably on the sweet side, but we didn’t care.
Their prices are kind of high, but still nicely set for what they are offering

As Tom Selleck would had on “Blue Bloods”; neat...no ice please !
After that...we headed back to a well deserved sleep at our Brice Kimpton Hotel. Thinking on what a nice surprise, after our mistake...
