Cafe M

A Parisian like Place in Historic Savannah, lers see why:

After carefully planning a week-plus Gastrotur, in historic Savannah and Charleston areas, I properly made all our dinner reservations (via OpenTable), in a selection of the TOP TA rated Foodie places there. Among them; “Olde Pink House”, “a.Lure”, “Hall’s Chop House”, “The Grill at Charleston Place”, “Grill 225” and “Circa 1886”. By a gran mistake from my agenda we missed “Circa 1875”....that would be one of the good reasons to our return-already in our plans- next year
For either breakfast, brunch or lunch I left, as always, opened our “agenda”, but not opened to circumstances, as you know:
“Man and his Circumstances”...varies too much and are UNCERTAIN !
When I planned our Gastrotour I don’t let anything opened to those circumstances.
ie. I carefully do my “homework” about our destinations; routes, Places, Attractions and-OF COURSE- HOTELS and RESTAURANTS, my specialty, are meticulous revised, studied, compare and waved each one to the others...mostly in our dear TRIPADVISOR
That’s why, any of those places of high interests, like RESTAURANTS, are left to casualties, nor uncertainly, neither carelessness... Because I do prepare a full list, of our very best options, for all those restaurants were we could be having a nice, high quality Breakfast or Lunch. That is, of course, besides our top reserved dinner places.
This is how we knew, ahead of time, about a Place were we had all our “breakFlunches” in Historic Savannah. A place perfectly located. Just a few blocks, walking distance, from our boutique Hotel Base in Savannah; the “Brice Kimpton”
This is how we knew that “CAFE M”, #3 TA rated among unpretentious places and a authentic French bakery, inspired by France, owned and run by a Parisian couple, with artworks by French illustrator Sempé hanging on the wall, next to “The Parisianer” magazine was there. As french at heart, as our second Country, we felt at home here; French music (like la Vie en Rose) was playing...among flying Cafe lattes, Macaroons (Ladurée style), Baguettes and Kiches...it was like a little piece of Paris was there, in this intimate-Cousy simple Café style Place, located in historic District, off Savannah’s famous River Street

About location, on a side note; don’t be intimidated by the area itself. At first glance, from that high-heavy transit on Bay Street, it looks more complicated than it is...with its multiple historic peatonal bridges, under-street car-ways etc. Once there you will enjoy those great, historic puzzles of bridges and fantastic views at nearby Savannah’s River areas, but just far enough to quaintly enjoy the place.
This time, getting there by car, was a little bit complicated. Some streets were closed while they were filming a sequel “ ANT MAN” movie down those multiple bridges.

As end of October weather was perfect, we enjoyed siting outside while siping our Cafe Lattes...you know; “When in Rome...” don’t ask for those “watery”, bland American style Cafe. A nice Cafe is in order to better enjoy the ambiance and intimacy, not to mention the fantastic frenchy food and a very friendly, courteous customer service !
We din’t had the “plaisir” to meet the Montplaisir’s owning this Cousy Cafe, but they most be doing all-right on his managing attentions to recipes and staff, as...
ALL WAS simple and simply FANTASTIQUE !
But; too much blah blah blah...WHAT WE HAD THERE and HOW ARE PRICES ?
Well; we are simple tastes foodies on “BreakFlunchs”...washed down, into our empty “transit intestinal” by multiple Cafe Lattes, with and without chocolat, we had...
Many of their delicious Croissant Melts; simple “Ham & Cheese”. More flavorfully “Bacon, blue cheese & Cranberries” with Prociutto. A softer and almost kind of sweeter “Brie, Honey & Walnuts” ...all of them freshly made, from the very best ingredients.
Besides we needed to try, as we did try, their great “Bacon & Cheese” and “Smoke Salmon” quiches...plus a more full-body “Provençal Baguette” for my son in law traveling with us, together with Glorianna Guillermina, our dear smaller daughter.
All prices were from just $7 to $10... a real treat that will no hurt any pockets.

Each and every noon time there-as late eaters (like we are)- we left content with souls and bodies, walking out of this Cafe Place, nestled in a corner where two olde bridges were used to carry cotton to different warehouses. A nice walk among that scenic setting with cobblestone streets, wrought iron railways and moss-laden live oaks...a picturesque as a “Ant Movie” scene...

We came on thanksgiving and gave up on Family and sons’ because of a 2 hour wait . almost many eateries were closed on Thanksgiving and coming here was by default.

We paid about about $50 inc tips for our quiche, 2 baguettes and 1 coffee (hence not cheap eats or filling if you are a ‘big eater’)

The cafe has tight seating for only 15-20 people. if you want to malinger here rather than ‘eat and go’, you will be struck with a guilty conscience, with people overlooking your shoulders and wishing you finish your meal quicker !

Not much of a service other than delivery of your meal to your table.

Every time I visit savannah I make a point to come here. The quiche is incredibly soft and delicious and the sandwiches were just to delicious. I got the salmon sandwich and salmon and spinach quiche. A definite must try when you are in the area. We sat outside because the weather was amazing but people just near the stairs were smoking. Yuck. Not the restaurants fault so don’t blame them. Atmosphere is delightful! People are friendly! Check them out!!
