“Great for a special night out”
Reviewed 5 March 2012

Food was delicious. Price is ok if you think of it as a special night out. There was no additional charge for our diet cokes which was a pleasant surprise. Food was cooked to a very high standard. Restaurant was intimate and I am sure there would be lovely views during the summer.

“Superb Evening”
Reviewed 29 February 2012

This restaurant only serves a meal once a day. Reservations are required, but very worth it. The menu changes daily. Each day is a 4 course meal that can be paired with wine or beer. The menu is posted on-line at least a week ahead of time, so you can choose the evening you wish to attend. The restaurant is situated in the living/dining room of an old estate. The original tables and furnishings add to the ambience of the evening. Our table was quaint by a window which can be opened during the spring and summer for additional breezes as you watch the sunset. The meals are prepared with only the freshest ingredients in season. We had a wonderul beef and bean soup to begin. The beef was cooked med/rare and so tender and flavorful. All veggies still had flavor and crunch. Nothing was overcooked. The salad follwed next with a wonderful citrus dressing. The main course was a shrimp scampi. Wonderful large butterflied prawns drizzled with the scampi sauce. Dinner finished with a fresh made key lime cheesecake.

Worth every penney paid for this fabulous meal. If you are looking for a nice, romantic evening, don't miss the Buckhorn.

“Underwhelmed...If you like overpriced, average food, eat here.”
Reviewed 20 January 2012

My husband and I were looking forward to eating here after it was recommended by a friend and had so many great reviews on TripAdvisor… sorry to say that I will put more stock in the negative reviews in the future.
First, the online menu was incorrect. We were looking forward to salmon, but were informed when we called to make reservations that it was really veal…"oh well. Book us anyway, I'm sure it will be really good"…famous last words.
When we got there, we had a table reserved, which was nice. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, but a little dated. Service was prompt. The waitress was friendly, but definitely not there to chat…she took care of business and hurried back to the kitchen.
The Food: The spice tea was very good, as were the rolls and dessert (some sort of mocha custard). But that was about it. The soup (squash and sausage soup) was ok, but bland and un-imaginative. The salad was pretty, but again, plain. The veal was tough and the coating was soggy, and it was topped with a piece of prosciutto and provolone cheese that helped a little. The gravy was good, but more of it would have been nice. The waitress didn’t stick around long enough for us to ask for extra.

The food was OK, and yes, it was better than most restaurants in Gatlinburg, BUT…it was not worth $35 a person. If they lowered their prices, we *might* eat here again. But, until that happens, and they hire someone who knows how to use a spice rack, we'll be taking our dinner business elsewhere. Check out Hungry Bear BBQ on 321….much cheaper, and EXCELLENT food!!!

Disclaimer: I am a New Orlenian, and regularly eat at restaurants owned by John Besh and Emeril…so I guess I'm a little spoiled. :)
