“Good location”
Reviewed 5 August 2011

we stayed here for a night during peak summers yet the place was so cool and pleasant it was unbelievable. The location is good with individual cottages. almost all cottages have a spectacular view though the top most are the best but most expensive too. The hotel is all vegetarian which is a drawback if your a non-vegetarian though the veg food was pretty good too.

I saw some mixed reviews on this resort and could not make up my mind whether this was worth taking a risk on a long weekend which is hard earned. However since Lonavla is the worst exploited tourist destination where millions of people flock on weekends esecially during the rainy season it has kept away some of the people who love tranquility and peace in midst of nature. So although there are a lot of hotels in lonavla they are in and around the busy and crowded area of Kumar resort junction, finding a resort where you can hear the drop of a pin is hard to find. Cloud 9 is one such resort located at a beautiful spot, on the way to Amby valley. Located on Amby Valley city road, 4 kms after Lion's point, and 8 kms before Amby valley, at a height of 1500 ft above Lonavala which gives a good view and cool experience.
Although as rightly mentioned in some of the reviews, the cottage rooms are too small, but are well furnished and are probably just enough for a couple but not for a family with kids. The area around the cottages has good garden space. The resort has quite a lot of rooms located at a height above the cottage rooms which are delux rooms and ther are slightly bigger. We were luck to get a 1bhk bunglow which they also offer on rent which can give good space to live with your family. These are generally family cottages and are well maintained too with space to park your car, small lawn to play etc.
The service is decent and the food was good enough. The best part was the tandoor where they cooked hot tandoori rotis which my son freaked out on. They have buffet which is included in the package. The tariffs look expensive but since they are the only resort in that area which is located at a good spot, they are charging the premium.
We were fortunate to get rains and experince the clouds which changed the entire mood and brought a cool breeze which cooled off that night too.
Overall not a bad place to explore, specially away from the mad rush in lonavla. Please venture only if you have a vehicle and mind you the ghat has some steep turns to watch out for. You can visit Amby valley and only have the pleasure of seeing it from outside as it has restricted access. It is about 8 km from the resort. There is one adventure park close to Amby valley where you can spend some time and money too :-)
Its got a bumpy jungle ride in open jeep and some remote controlled cars for kids. Unfortunately the cars were not availble when we went.
Best time to visit is in rainy season (only in weekdays as weekends are crowded in lonavla) or just after rainy season after the bushy dam fever is over so that you can drive smoothly past that stretch.

The place is wonderful with wood house cottages like a house boat in kashmir.
Food- I would say it serves the best vegetarian food in lonavala. The feeling of hot spicy food in fog is just great

Overall a must visit

I booked this place after looking at their website which is a clear case of overpromise & underdeliver.
The service is very rude, the rooms very small, located very oddly.
Other than good views there is nothing else this place has to offer.
Its also very expensive for what it has to offer.

They have spoiled the amazing location. Though it is between the main market and Ambi valley, location is very peaceful. But the wooden cottages are major disappointment. Rooms were small and filthy, bed sheets were very dirty and strained. Food was ok but nothing very exciting. Overall I was an unplesant stay.

Cloud 9 is located 12 Kms ..I stayed there in december 09, This hotel is nothing but a piece of mess...Hotel owners have simply wasted the location which would have attracted many..Rooms r pretty small and dirty..bedsheets have stains on them..I got the booking done through a lady called priya..we were promised hilltop rooms and food for 2 nights at 4500 Rs.. after reaching there we were offered ordinary room stating hill tops rooms were occupied..but belive me the entire hotel was vacant..we called up priya to check..instead of changing the room she started yelling over the phone..Customer service is Zero....My company had planned a trip for 45 ppl in this hotel and asked to check it out..after returing i simply asked them to cancel the program at this resort..
Suprising thing is reception is inside the resturant..the person who offer u room keys also picks you and drops you and also take the order for lunch and dinner..Multitasking Huh?? Food is bad..if u not in your own car u will have to shell out 500 Rs for a pick and drop .. no wont find any person on the way to cloud 9..
Impressive things are Staff who fill water bottle and clean the room..
they will try to help you out in any possible way..
Best i can say is stay away from this mess......

Accommodation
- Opt for the ‘Deluxe Rooms’ over ‘Wooden Cottages’. They aren’t much different other than the fact that Deluxe is more spacious and has bath tub fittings. The Wooden Cottage bathroom is too cramped for comfort. There isn’t much difference in the tariff either (Deluxe Rooms cost only Rs 600 more than Wooden).
- From the Deluxe Cottages, do NOT take Room No. 110. No, there are no ghosts therein but this Deluxe Cottage is just the size of a Wooden Cottage.
- All rooms have AC (though with MSEB electricity cuts they do not work for a major part of the day and night). Nevertheless the climate amidst clouds is too pleasant and you won’t really need AC in monsoon or winter. There is generator backup which only supports fans and lights.
- All rooms have gas geysers so hot water is not a problem even during load-shedding. 24 hours hot water facility!
- All rooms have Satellite TV connections though you won’t bother to turn to the idiot box with so much more to see around in the picturesque place.
- Amenities like plumbing are short on maintenance though.

Food
- Decent pure vegetarian food but do not expect a 7 course platter of 5 star.
- Desert restricted to sweet dish. Do not expect ice-creams or pastries.
- There is a bar with Happy Hours between 7pm to 9pm.
- Hookas are mentioned on Menu but not always available.

Room Service
- The room service is quite diligent. The working staff is humble without tip-tantrums and the managers are not fussy.
- However prompt room-service doesn’t mean you go on calling them every moment. And that’s the biggest problem since we had to call room service for every petty problem from fan, AC, plumbing, intercom to bathroom cleanup. Though all were sorted out, the point is why the room wasn’t immaculately ready until we summoned help.

Entertainment
- Special games and events are organized for resort residents on Saturday evenings which is good time-pass fun. Not sure if that happens on weekdays though.
- There is no separate Disco or Dance Floor but the open dining hall substitutes for a decent dancing zone.
- Do not expect DJ sound mixing. But the amplifier isn’t bad.

Swimming Pool
- Though not mentioned anywhere on the resort’s official websites or listed with travel agents, the resort has a small swimming pool which started just about 15 days back.
- There is a rain-dance area too but the sound system isn’t yet organized.

Ambience
The best part of the Cloud9 which could make you overlook all its other shortcomings is its ambience.

- Lonavala in itself has become a very commercialized hill-station. Cloud9 is 15 kms from Lonavala at a height of 1500 ft above Lonavala on the road to Amby Valley. The climate is much cooler than Lonavala and the hill-station feel is more authentic here with the resort literally set amidst clouds.
- Open your room’s door in the morning and all you can see is chunks of clouds. You will never be able to trace the horizon.
- Dense fog covers the roads in monsoon in broad daytime and at nights road vision is as good as impossible. We know this better because we reached the resort at 3 in night.

The Package
With a lovely ambience, what acts to Cloud9 Hills Resort’s advantage is its economical worked out package.
- A weekend for couple costs just Rs 5200 (for Wooden Cottages) and Rs 5800 (for Deluxe Cottages). As mentioned above, opt for the Deluxe Cottage. Any other standard resort in Lonavala will cost you between Rs 7500 to Rs 16000 (5 star Fariyas).
- The tariff includes bed-tea, breakfast, lunch, high-tea and dinner which is a clear steal. Any other Lonavala resort will provide you only breakfast and dinner (MAP).
- Even bungalows are available for larger groups.

Perhaps tourists still prefer resorts in Lonavala city and conveyance to Cloud9 could be a problem if you don’t have personal transport. So the packages are designed economical to attract tourists to this resort. And it actually works!

A little more maintenance, good landscaping and better facilities could make the resort much more popular amidst tourists.

Sightseeing Options near Cloud9
Most of the points of Lonavala are located on the road from Lonavala city to Cloud9. So for sightseeing, one doesn’t have to go too far away. Points of interest are…
- Shivling Point (try the roasted sweet corn here. This corn is really sweet and soft)
- Lions Point (do indulge in some ice-cream in the chill of Lonavala. Enjoyable)
- Tiger Falls (do not miss corn bhajias with the spicy dry chutney powder)
- Bhushy Dam (most famous point of Lonavala but off late the most notorious too. All drunk guys create a scene here and if you are with family its better to ignore this point)

Photos
Have photos of the resort which could be shared on request. It was too heavy to upload on the website and also by broadband speed is dead slow.
