Me and my husband spent 2 nights at the GMV during our honeymoon and enjoyed our time there. The place is quiet but has a wonderful view on the rice terrace and the Gunung Agung (if not too cloudy). It's a nice play to stay if you plan on going to see the sunrise on Agung. The hosts (Wayan, Nyoman and family) are very nice, helpful and available. The food at the restaurant is really well-prepared and fresh ! If you like cooking, we recommend you take a cooking class with Wayan, she taught us how to make Balinese specialities, yummy ! The room are very clean, comfortable and have exterior bathroom (very charming). But, you definitely want to bring earplugs for sleep, because of the roosters (we can hear them from 3am to the sunset...). Very authentic place !

I was recommended this place by a friend and he described it as a 'get away from it all' spot. Though that's one way to put it, it does not fully describe GMV. GMV is located in the mountains which I see as the heart of Bali and is a skip hop away to the beaches. The place may be far away from major towns, but that's the charm. But being in Bali, most popular tourist spots are pretty much a couple of hours away and trips are easily arranged with the resort staff.

Getting to the nearest village for local food is a bike ride away but really, the kitchen in GMV is great. Dont miss the papaya Curry, yummy. Being in the middle of the rice farms, mosquitoes are a problem too, so its wise to pack some repellant.

Booking rooms here (though there is no online reservation) was pleasant experience. Clare provided with all the required info and clearly described the options too. The service provided by the staff is excellent. Nyoman, Wayan and the rest of the crew made the stay extremely pleasant.

If you are the adventurous sort, Mt Agung is about 30 mins away and worth a climb followed by a nice massage.

Highly recommended place, I would gladly come back and use it as a base for exploring rustic Bali.

This is the place to go if you seek the "authentic Bali" and if you are looking for loneliness in a countryside residence. The hosts, Nyoman and Wayan are very friendly and try to make your stay comfortable and interesting. The bungalows are nice with a private balcony/terrace and a wonderful view towards the Mount Agung.
Still, if you do not have your own transportation, you will be very dependent on the activities offered by the Resort because there are no other opportunities for activities nearby. The activities offered by the Resort themselves sound great, but are overpriced (and could have a more of a professional character); for instance a tracking tour advertised as a "3-hour tour" was finished in 1 1/2 hours. The massage was done by a lady from the next village who came late, and was done in a place without any privacy (this place cannot be called a "Spa"). The quality of the food varied largely from day to day. Generally, the service was good, with rather long waiting times. One evening we waited for more than one hour.
Still: the view is wonderful - and therefore it might be worthwhile to visit this place.

We stayed at GMV on 25/26th January 2012 after meeting Nyoman at his Organic Restaurant back on the main road a few weeks before and him telling us about the resort. We were stunner by the view and said we would come back. We did and we got married there on the 26th, well, we had a commitment ceremony in the gardens overlooking the rice fields. It was an amazing day, only 7 of us Wayan were very helpful, and looked after our 9 month old son while we had our meals.

We can't recommend this place highly enough, we had the place to ourselves when we stayed and and at night all you could see where the stars and the lights on the villages on Agung volcano. Go for Room 8, it's above room 7 ansd you get a 270 degree view across the fields to Agung. Magical.

Room Tip: Room 8 for the view, although the bathroom in room 7 below is better.
