The English dictionary has a multitude of words to describe the beautiful and the awe inspiring, a diverse lexicon that should in theory cover all the beauty that life can throw our way. However, as i write this review, the words fail me.
How can one describe this whirlwind of sensations that is the Shangri La Maldives.

From the Turquoise waters of the Addu Atoll coral reef to the beaming smiles of the Maldivians, this resort completely summarizes perfection.

As soon as you arrive on the island (via the complimentary boat ride from Gan airport) , you are greeted with an ocean of smiles, a smooth and delicious coconut drink that will quench your thirst as you are ushered by your 24/7 majordomo towards the buggy which will take you to your villa.

The villas themselves are the epitome of tropical luxury. They are spacious and come with all the amenities of a 5+ star resort. Our villa was a water villa ( different from the in island villas) and boasted one of the most breathtaking views i have ever seen in my life. I will not spoil it to anyone but the villa terrace should be the first thing you see before even unpacking.

Once you’ve taken in the lay of the land, the resort offers many fun activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, dolphin sight seeing, para sailing and much more.. all the water sports you can think of are available at many different rates

The restaurants, all three of them, are each in their separate ranks, from the quaint beachside Javvu to the classy Dr.Ali all the way to the luxurious / gastronomical Fashala, there is something for everyone’s taste (and budget).

If i have one (very) minor negative comment to say, it would be the missing gesture regarding my and my wife’s honeymoon ( no flowers on bed, no champagne).

Overall, our experience in the Shangri la Maldives was made even more amazing thanks to a wonderfully trained and caring staff, we would like to particularly thank Mr.Philippe for his smile and kind words every morning at Breakfast, Thierry for his humour and energy, Nasheed for his passion for the sea and his caring nature, Peter our amazing majordomo always readily available , Yusuf our intrepid snorkeling guide / instructor and finally the little Anna, the amazing intern!

Thank you all for the wonderful time we’ve spent at your resort, these our memories that we will cherish forever

Dear Cynthia and Tullio

Thank you for yourt wonderful review of your recent stay at our resort. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us, The Water Villa is undoubtedly one of my favorites, as it offers the best in everything - luxurious and well appointed interiors, spectacular panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and mesmerizing sun sets. Not forgetting the unobtrusive and personalized Shangri-la service provided by our Island Host team.

Professional team!
Welcoming and smiling for both arrival and departure.
We stayed in the amazing water villa. So beautiful and spacious!
We went snorkeling but unfortunately saw nothing but the »nemo » fish (which is super cute) but that was it!

The pool and beach are also very nice.

The moment we arrived at Shangri-La Villingili we realized that this is an island living in uncompromising style. Over five days we explored every side of the island in a slightly different, more luxurious way. We had booked through Luxury Escapes and travelled from Colombo to GAN Island which is located only 5 minutes by speedboat away from Shangri-La. It's the largest single-resort island in the archipelago and operates in its own time zone for the ultimate disconnect.
The island stretches almost 3kms with the Indian Ocean bordering the beaches of the island. We stayed in Overwater villa which was exceptionally spacious, had open air shower, walk-in-wardrobes, beautiful bath tub, outdoor deck with direct access to sea and luxurious amenities. So, getting around the resort was through buggy, bicycle or leisure walks. Each villa is given 2 bicycles, all in very good condition. There are three restaurants and two bars on the island. The pool bar is only open during the day till 6:30pm. M Lounge is the main bar with beautiful sitting arrangement, live DJ on some evenings, and we even experienced a management cocktail party here. Each restaurant had dedicated chef and also in the inside there are different arrangements to choose your table and make every day a new experience. We would like to name Chef Latif at Dr. Ali’s restaurant and Chef Amar Singh at Javvu restaurant who made best curated Indian delicacies in vegetarian section for us. It enhanced our stay in every aspect. The best part of our stay was the All-inclusive package which made it simpler for us to enjoy the ocean breeze and amazing food.
The resort is excellent in providing staff service. All the staff were very friendly and they greeted us with cold towels and small refreshments everywhere. The entire stay was very relaxing and we particularly enjoyed cycling around, relaxing at the beach, snorkeling at the house reef, meditating in our Overwater villa etc. The day before departure we received our departure information with ideal luggage collection time, check-out time and transfer time to the airport. The entire transfer from the moment we got off the plane to the villa and back was flawless.

Dear Hinaangs

Yes I agree with you on your comments.
You have beautifully captured the true spirit of our resort and the essence of Maldives with your fabulous review
Right from landing in Male to arriving at our resort we have worked on every stage to ensure guests comfort. Our villas are one of the largest in all of Maldives. Our views are breathtaking and yet diverse. Our resort offers guests turquoise-blue lagoons, stunning coral reefs, panoramic sunsets, lush green jungles and a well-manicured golf course. It’s the perfect hide away for the nature seeking enthusiast. I am glad to read that you enjoyed your stay with us, not forgetting the unobtrusive and personalized Shangri-la service.

Hope to see you soon back to the Resort.

Beautiful resort on a lush island with a wonderful coral reef . Great value for money . The overwater bungalows are very nice and full of light unlike the beach villas which are a bit dark and away from the sun due to the lush trees . The overwater bungalows on whispering palms overlooking the coral reef with sunset view are the best in the resort since you get to snorkel from your villa but they lack privacy since they overlook the snorkeling area . The bungalows and villas are nice but not as luxurious as four seasons or one and only . Dinner in fashala and Dr ali were amazing and of very high standard and at very fair price but Javuu dinner was a disaster. The breakfast is one of the best in Maldives . The pool area is nice but the resort misses the perfect beach area which is only compensated by the wonderful coral reef . Service is not consistent and not as exquisite as four seasons and one and only but the hotel makes it up with the food , setting , and value for money . Overall wonderful resort with room for improvement when it comes to the service .
